SD GF&P Commission Proposes Larger Lion Quota
6/16/2009
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission is planning to revise the quotas set for the 2010 mountain lion hunting season. The revision would set the highest quota for mountain lion kills.
Recommendations by the game, fish and parks staff are to commission a three-month season beginning Jan. 1, 2010 that would allow hunters to kill 35 lions. Only 20 female lions can be included in the total number of lions hunted by a single hunter.
The commission has moved to increase the number of hunted lions to 40 total or 25 female lions.
The finalization of the new 2010 season proposals will be held at the July 1 commission meeting.
