While everyone is getting their archery gear together, might want to think about how you are going to deal with the mosquitoes.

First West Nile Virus Death Reported in Iowa
By Becky Ogann
DES MOINES (AP) - State health officials say a central Iowa man is the first reported fatal victim of West Nile virus this year.

The Iowa Department of Public Health says the elderly man died in August. The department wouldn't release the man's name or hometown.

Department officials say Iowans should take precautions against being bitten by mosquitoes until a hard freeze occurs.

State Epidemiologist Dr. Patricia Quinlisk says the population of mosquitoes has climbed in recent weeks after a wet August and scientists have reported a high population of the species of mosquito that carries dangerous diseases like West Nile virus.

You poor Iowa things.... the only thing MN has on you is the early season. I already have one big doe in the freezer and have passed up several smaller bucks. We've had three hard freezes so the mosquitos aren't too bad.
