Season's Over...What did you learn and what will you do differently?

I learned( and I kinda already knew this!:D) if I really gotta eat deer meat .....I need to lower my standards , or hunt them with a firearm!! I also know I do not have the time, or the money to devote to kill huge bucks! So be it!! :way: We do what we can!

I agree, I don't have the money or the time to hunt the huge bucks. So that said I want to spend more time shooting, and letting my boys hunt.

I would also like to get in contact with guys who hunt in the same area to share info as far as best days etc....

PLAY THE D@MN WIND! I already knew this but how many times do we say the heck with it. That cost me one of my best deer I saw all season. F'n wind!

I used to say the opposite, but if I'm ever debating wheter to sit or not... go. Even if you're burned out and tired, they're still horned up and on the move. ...and you just might get the biggest buck of your life.

For next year, I'm gonna find a place to hang a stand or two on that piece of public land by work. It'd be nice to squeeze in a few more short sits here and there. I've seen big bucks over there, and have yet to see any hunters.

Sorry to break it to you Crocket and Bowdude, but having money has nothing to do with killing big deer! Maybe for some guys that hunt high fence. Time and effort I will give you, but not the money aspect. It's like anything else in life, you get out of it what you put into it! :way: I know a ton of guys (alot on this site) that aren't wealthy by any means and still manage to get it done by hard work, scouting, and just pure drive and dedication. And it doesn't take owning 500 acres of prime habitat either! Some of my biggest whitetails have come just by banging on doors and scouting my ass off.

Sorry for the rant, I just don't like when everybody assumes that if you are successful at something than you must have a silver spoon in your mouth! Simply not true in most cases!

Packnasty makes a good point... We only get 2 1/2 mo's a year to bow hunt, you can be "burned out" after season is over. Personally, I never get sick of getting out of bed or early mornings or cold/long sits. It's what some of us live for and look forward to all year. I'm already planning for 2012! Like it says in my sig line, "plan the execution, execute the plan". For some that "plan" may be more in depth than for others! :way:

Right on geez. All the big ones are on public land anyway! Walk, scout, and when your tired of walking walk some more. Just remember if you walk 2 miles from the truck you have to drag that 200 pound pig back 2 miles too.:way: They are out there fellas.

Oh I think having money can have alot to do with big deer and your chances of killing such! No way your gonna convince me if I could afford to buy A large acreage and afford to plant choice food plots, My chances would not be better than some one who can only hunt small uncontrolled ground wether it be private or not! Not a assumption! Just makes sense!!

What is your definition of huge bucks.? Just curious. Everyone's is different. Personally I don't think money plays much role is taking a BIG buck. Sure your odds would be better with hundreds of acres to yourself managed how you like, nobody with a brain would argue that. Just takes more work and effort and passion to get it done. Some people do not have these traits and they do not kill big deer year in and year out.

OK GUys this thread was going great> lets keep it going with what we learned and what we are pllanning to do next year.
