was just wondering if there were problems in other states too.? for abou the past 4 years, i have been paying attention and try to somewhat keep track of the deer i see killed along the road while i am driving to work and from work. i travel an hour each way, 110 miles total. this year higher than ever, as far as bucks go, it couldn't get worse. i usually stop keeping track around the end of august. anyways in the years past my highest total number of bucks killed along the road was 11. that was 2 years ago and that was the total number i seen clear from march to august. of course i no there are many more that i don't see. but anyways this years total is up to 24 already. i'm not traveling any different road then in the past and it's like every day i drive home from work i see 2 new dead ones along the road. to me this is not good news, i have seen some pretty nice ones also. saw my biggest one so far this morning, it a;ready had a basically completely formed rack, a full 8 points, all tines being around 8 or 9 inches long and about an 18-20 inch spread. does anyone out there have any logical thinkings on why this is happening. deer aren't moving a lot this time of year and i am really stumped. please help!

Same thing is going on here in Southern Michigan. A lot of dead bucks lying beside the road the last few weeks. I think one reason is that the dominate does with fawns will kick the bucks out of an area. Especially the young bucks and that's mostly what we have in my area. These young bucks will then move into a new area. I am sure there're many other reasons but I think does having their fawns has a lot to do with it.

Maybe you just have a lot more bucks in the area now. I don't know why else this would be happening. Just a thought.

I suppose there could be many different reasons for the collisions. One of the first ones that comes to mind is the general increase in traffic on all of our roadways.
In one respect, some people are blaming a large deer herd for these collisions when this is not always the case. The increase in traffic is having an equal or greater impact on the collision rate.

I could only guess why you're seeing more dead bucks vs. does.

I've heard the theory about the does kicking them out of the area also.

I have noticed the same thing here. I also drive nearly an hour to work, 86 miles round trip. From Harlan to Council Bluffs. So far I have counted 14 bucks and 6 does. This is very unusual here too. I was wondering the same thing myself about the high number I have been seeing.......

Dont have that problem here SplitG3. Besides it is hard to see dead deer on the road when you only have 3 miles to your office.

i help my dad work and we drive back and forth every day and round trip is about 140 miles a day. we are currently take the same route every day and we see about sevenn deer hit every day. about 1 in 24 are bucks. we figure we see more does hit cause they are trying to find a place to drop there yougnins. i live in western iowa and we take interstate 6-80 to work into north omaha.
