Severe lack of harvest pics?????

What gives? Very few harvest pics from 1st season, and now after opening weekend of 2nd there isn't much either? Nobody killing anything or are people just not posting? I had a nice cup of coffee ready to enjoy a dozen new harvest pics and stories and I got about 3 drinks in and I was done! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif What's up? /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

did you burn your tongue, i hate it when that happens! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazy.gif

it sure seems slow to me as well.

I can only speak for our group, but we didn't see nearly as many deer as in the past. I am starting to agree that the population is way down from last year. There are 8 of us that go out and usually have had all our tags filled by Sunday. We seen maybe 6 deer all weekend and managed to only get 3 of them. The timbers we hunt are usually full of deer. They just were there this year. I don't know what the deal is. We got checked by the DNR yesterday afternoon and I asked him if he was hearing the same thing from other groups, and he said nobody was seeing the numbers thay had in the past. He said we really need to report what we are seeing to the appropriate people so that they might adjust the number of antlerless tags for our area.

Maybe it's because gun hunters have been getting ripped all week and have decided not to show there deer?

I dont know about anyone else but our group just had a hard time finding anything I would consider a shooter buck. We did however see tons of does and the 9 of us shot 21 deer sat. and sun. but only 3 were bucks and none of those ever should have been shot, so didnt get any pics taken. In 5 days of hunting I only saw 1 buck that id shoot and he doubled back on the drive and never even got shot at

I noticed the same thing, was excited to see some big boys on the ground. I've heard from multiple groups about low deer sightings.

I have a theory on why some people were not seeing deer. Some areas we hunted had tons of deer and some did not. Something we all noticed about the areas we did not see deer was standing corn due to farmers planting late because of all the flooding we had this spring. My farm is in a high spot with standing unpicked beans surrounded by timber and picked corn. Most nights there are 40-50 deer in the beans. My buddy also has a farm with picked corn and alfalfa, surrounding timber, and no standing corn. He also has about the same amount of deer in his fields every night. 3 other farms we hunt has standing corn nearby and you're real lucky to see a deer out feeding.

I did have the chance to talk to a DNR officer this week who told me the number of deer sightings and kills was way down. He also said the number of tags sold is way down. He says the DNR is talking about having to raise the price of tags to $35 next year because revenue from tag sales was down so far. Last but not least he said Hunter Ed classes are having a real problem filling their seats.

Hey, I posted mine already. Here's another one of them hanging in the garage to help this thread have at least one pic. I shot both of these within the first hour opening day Shotgun 2. Out on public ground by myself. In UFC fights, thats an opening bell knockout! Now I have to wait until late Muzzy to go again.

The doe was so big, her head is touching the ground and foot is touching the ceiling. Thats a little button buck by her side, and probably her son.

Plenty of deer where we hunt(marion&mahaska below red rock)but no big bucks. No surprise there since 1st season groups did really well this year in the same area. Quite a few private refuge type areas and rural housing tracts that keep the numbers higher than most farmers like.

I talked to guys from 4 different groups this weekend. Not many deer to shoot at. Numbers are down down down.

We didnt run into any problems with standing corn but did push a lot of river and creek bottoms that had very little sign in them I think the high water levels from the floods this spring and summer and lack of cover now because of it really changed where the big boys went when the guns started going off. Hopefully theyll show up in the fields again in another week or so. But once again there was deffinately no shortage of deer where we hunt actually if I had to guess more this year than any of the past few just a lack of mature buck sightings. This was the 1st season in a long time when nobody in the group put a good buck in the truck. Even after taking the 21 deer sat&sun we went back and pushed the same 2 areas on monday and you never wouldve thought they had even been hunted yet by the number of deer that came out on the same drives

I shot 2 nice does next to some standing corn saturday morning. Had 2 sneak by right next to the corn. Our group only shot 1 nice buck. They only shot one deer sunday. But we had other problems that helped with that. One guy thinks he can do whatever he wants. So instead of sitting where he's suppose to he sat in another stop and couldn't figure why he was getting yelled at then one thing leads to another and the pushing starts.
What a blast. Needless to say we have 2 groups now.

We're not having any late season luck south of the border either. My father-in-law just mentioned it tonight and he has put in mega hours of hunting in several places in Southern & Northern Missouri and hasn't seen much of anything. It's just a goofy late season everywhere I guess.
