Sheds

I stumbled across 2 fresh sheds yesterday, as soon as the snow melts a little more I may have to start stomping. One was in a bed and the other was below some Yews all within 30 yards of my 94-year-old neighbor's house. Anyone else find any yet?

I posted about a mature buck that dropped back in December but since then I've noticed very few shed bucks and I'd say 90% of the 3+ y/o bucks I'm keeping an eye on or have been regular on camera are still holding and confirmed within the last week or so.

I noticed the same thing a few shed real early but a a bunch were still holding as of last week. Looks like a few are starting to drop now I guess that’s par for the course. I’m more concerned about this warm weather. They aren’t gonna be as easy to find this year not being concentrated on the grain plots as much but good for their health going into the spring hopefully. I remember not even going shed hunting until the beginning of March waiting for all the snow to melt, but with the trespassers and lack of snow the last few years we don’t have that luxury.

Im at 8. 5 fresh and 3 old. Its early yet, only 2/11. Most bucks still holding.

If you are walking any kind of public ground the amount of people already pounding it is ridiculous. Of course, I am one of them though. I use to just find a few boot prints now and then, never saw another person. Now the past few years I have ran into other people while out searching, along with more prints. I have literally ran into 4 other people now while at shed hunting this year already. And Im sure at one spot there was another person already in there while i was (they had a personalized hunting them plate on their car). Cant even get out after work for a quick hour without running into someone. 1770825713774.png

Starting to think I need to knock on some doors for more private permission next year or I need to find a new winter hobby. Very frustrating.

2/14 & 2/15. 17.1 miles hiked this past weekend. Just one shed found. Small 4 pt. Saturday headed an hour 30 south to no hunting park in south central Iowa hoping that might up the odds. Its where I found the one. I dont think I'll ever be back at that park though, just an absoulte jungle for the most part of honeysuckle and MFR. Did found a few pockets that had really good sign.

2/7 & 2/8. 17.87 miles hiked. One shed found.

I had a few bucks shed real early then most held on till just recently. They are really starting to drop the last 2-3 days. I'm not a big shed hunter, but some buddies are, and we will do a shed hunt in March on my farms.

Got a picture of a 3- or 4-year-old that dropped both sides today. Most year & a half old buck have dropped both sides and a few one side. The 3-year-old 7 is still packing. I'm only monitoring 45 acres, plane on stomping the area in a couple more weeks. Still have some snow on the ground and more expected Sunday. I got the shed itch!

Everyone wants to be self employed and hunt / fish daily. It’s what the Pandora’s box Covid opened up for people. Drive by the des Moines River 10 am on a Tuesday and there’s 30 guys fishing. No wonder our economy sucks, nobody wants to actually work anymore……..

Not when it's easier to just pull a gov't check :)
