SHOOT ANYTHING GUN HUNTERS

i agree with you too, kat

if i pay my money, and obey the laws, where does QDMer get off telling me what i can and cannot shoot? i can take whatever animal i choose. i would like to take a wall hanger every year, but not at the expense of an empty freezer. i am out there to fill tags for meat for my family. not everybody is out there to shoot antlers. maybe i don't care if i get my face plastered on all the magizines. i want to enjoy my season, and get food for my table. if that is a basket 6, a trophy 12, a spike, a doe, or a fawn still in spots, that is MY CHOICE. not yours. you can fill your own damn tag with whatever you want. quit looking down you noses at people who shoot the first deer they see. its their tag.

Well said Teeroy. I have been keeping my mouth shut on this thread for quite awhile.....but it is time someone came out and stated it the way you have. I am all for QDM and such.....but let people do what they want to do. I remember a few seasons ago I put a post up here giving everyone a "good luck" for shotgun season. Man oh man did I start something! People started bashing shotgunners and it got really ugly and the post lasted many pages long.......all from me wishing people good luck!! Give me a break.....
Lets just hope it doesn't come to that again.......

Ditto - very well said Kat!

QDM and selective harvesting is many things to many people - to me it is filling my tags without regrets and having personal pride in my harvest - buck or doe - oh and eating a few tag sandwiches.

Good luck everyone these next two weekends

- have fun, be safe and fill your tags with a deer that satisfies you.

well said waukon1 and kat.

we seem to have this kind of post every year, with the same opinons.

Fact is, not all deer hunters will practice QDM.......ever. But every year I do see more groups of shotgun hunters being more selective what they shoot.

Personally, I don't think that is Iowa's biggest problem anyway. I think the mature big bucks that get shot at night is Iowa's biggest problem. Just last friday night as me and Hogie were trailing his buck we heard a big gun go off twice at 9:00. What the hell are they shooting at 9:00 at night? The stories that I've heard up here this year are the worst I've ever heard. I bet we all would be shocked if we could magically know how many deer were illegally shot. How many times have we all read post here where people have found dead deer with the heads cut off. I remember Muddy found several last year and was pretty sick about it. I don't know what to do about it other than let the local CO know. But they want to know something solid too so their not chasing tails all day.

I think we all need to take it more personally. Carry your cell phones with your local CO's number on it along with local law enforcement. Maybe a bunch of over-reactors is better than not acting at all.

Sorry, I'm just venting but I am getting really sick of this s#*t...

In my opinion if they are doing it legally good luck to them.

On land that I hunt or we own I say to wait for a wall hanger or shoot a doe if I bring a guest. We have plenty of does to go around that are great eating and small bucks that can grow to be a dandy. But if someone on their own land wants to just fill tag go for it, as long as you do it legally I wish you luck!

I used to get all worked up over this issue of trophy management and caused some hard feelings with close friends, and feel that is how we are going to separate the hunting community not join together. These days with all the anti's we need to stay together not shame the ethical hunter because he shot something we may not have.

Don't apologize Moose....there's too much poaching and trespassing going on in this state and not enough law enforcement for these crimes. I wish more people thought like you do....

It doesn't just happen with gun hunters. There are bow hunters and muzzleloaders that will take younger bucks also. The pressure seems to build on a person after a week of sitting and not getting to shoot at what you were looking for, but always having younger deer around you every day.Well, finally a person caves in and takes one, sometimes they are happy the season is over, and sometimes they are dissapointed with what they have taken.Whatever the choice,it all boils back down to what your individual beliefs are.I pass on 130" deer at 10 yards with my bow, to only have someone else take them in a different season, but if "I" don't let them pass, then "I" haven't even given them a chance.

The goal is to persuade those who hunt with reverse logic to "jump the fence" and shoot the does instead of basket rack bucks. Many talk the talk but few walk the walk. I'd never expect anyone to pass on any deer buck or doe if it is a personal trophy. The "seasoned" hunter that downs 2-3 young bucks each year needs to set a higher goal. If the group wants a certain amount of meat it can be had with out feeling they need to shoot those little bucks. Problem is the guys all want to hold onto that buck tag hoping for the big one on day four. I say buy the extra doe tag fill it and hunt on.

Well said Bowhunt.

Can we get a group hug now??? ((((hug))))

There, now don't you all feel better?

easy there kat. There's a lot of good guys on this site but as far as a big hug for them..............thats's where I draw the line

I started this thread because of a single group of shotgun hunters that surround my families property for the first shotgun season every year. By no means do I group all gun hunters in the same catagorie as these 5 or 6 guys, I know better than that. I don't believe these gun hunters are ethical in the way they hunt deer, my opinion only. We've worked hard to better the deer habitat on our land, and I'm sure some of you can relate to our situation.

QDMer, you shoot your deer, and I will shoot mine. I couldn't find your books at Amazon, so I will have to stick to Ozoga. Honestly people, every time this kind of talk erupts I'm left wondering if some of these responses would take place face-to-face.

Moosehunter and Waukon1--right on!

This conversation occurs every season. It is not going to stop until party hunting is outlawed and enforced. I have no problem with people using any legal method of hunting (including driving deer in parties)but what is wrong with making shotgun season the same as every other season - when you shoot your deer you are done hunting. it seems ridiculous to me to allow hunters to continue hunting after they have taken their deer. I say give the residents FREE extra does tags if they want to fill the freezer.
