Shopping for a Bow

I won't start the argument of what type of bow is better than others. I'm planning on buying a Matthews Outback this year. I guessing the best time to get one is mid winter. Am I correct? I see that Scheels dropped their price to $650 for Christmas. Any of you have experience with this? I'm trying to get a good bow for as cheap as I can. I've used hand me down and used bows my whole life. I feel that I deserve to splurge a little and buy a new one. I like the Matthews and Hoyt bows both. I do plan to shoot all of them (I have shot the Outback and liked it). Where would you guys look and when for the best price and best service?

January 05 they'll drop a bunch. After the ATA show in Indianapolis they will introduce the 2005 models. A name is a name.....I shoot what feels best and what caters to my shooting style. Have fun......alot of choices out there.

a coworker and myself both just bought a Hoyt Ultrasport for 305, and then with everything put on(release,peep/sight etc/arrows) it walked up to 500. Both of us are shooting accurate in our first attempts at 20 yds. Both of us are newbies to the sport so can't compare to the Matthews or other brands, we bought the Ultrasport on recommendations and price.

I would wait a bit, late january when the 04 are still lingering and the 05's are out. We went to the deer classic last year and a guy offered my dad one for 595, that is a pretty good price

That is a good price. Trust me, I'm not made of money. That's why I'm trying to get the best deal. I just figured that I'd try to grab an 04 model as the 05's are rolling out. If I picked one up for around $500ish, I'd be doing alright. I'm not set on the Matthews Outback, but it sure was nice to shoot. I'm shooting a Bear Bruin, which is about 10 inches longer than the Outback and three times as heavy. It's an old hand me down bow that I can only crank up to 55lbs. It "lobs" arrows. I kill deer with it, but think I would be much better off shooting 65-70lbs with a shorter, lighter bow.

cb....if you can get an Outback in the low to mid 600.00's you're doing really well. I don't know how much you shoot, but the Zebra String Curse will get you sooner or later... depending how many arrows you put through your bow after you get it. I own an Outback....love it! The string set it comes with is junk! Read the "Mathews Outback Owners" thread in the Tech/3D section. You'll end up putting some extra $ into the bow after you get sick of the crappy strings on it. I replaced mine right away because patience is not a virtue I was endowed with.....anyway, read the thread I referred to, I think it's right up your alley.

i have the outback and its a great bow but they got the new switchback coming out it might be worth spending a little extra i paid 600.00 for my outback good luck!!
