Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgun?

After repeatedly watching guys take 8 shots at deer running 30 mph 200 yards away I think it is time they require plugged guns during shotgin season. There also should be a limit to the amount of ammunition one can have on them. Lets be better sportsman out there and stop wounding every deer we see.

i agree completely.... if anyone actually believes their going to hit a deer on a dead run at 150 yards with a shotgun theyve lost their mind and who in their right mind needs 8 shots or even 4 to kill a deer what happened to the one shot one kill? this was my first time ever hunting during shotgun season and the things i saw were horrible...

Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

Your posts sound like great advertisements for the anti-hunters and anti-gunners. I listended to sarah Brady say something very similiar at a congressional session a few years ago.

Right on man... I had a similar post like that on here and it got nuked. Its not just the shotgun hunters that wound deer. Its those people that do take those 100+ yard shots at running deer that do the wounding. I dont care how good your gun is on or how good of a shot you "think" you are... you will not be able to hit a dinner plate every time like you should be able to to be ethical! I think pluggs would be great but people would start bringing multiple guns. Guys would always find a way to take alot of shots at deer

great post to get the idea of ethics into all peoples minds with shotgun seasons in full swing...

Not anti-hunter..... just against unethical hunting. In my book---> 100+ yard shots with shotguns at running deer is unethical and disrespectul to the animal (just my opinion)

Re-read their posts, plugging a gun to four shots won't prohibit anyone from shooting 100+ yard running shots. That is the title of the post "Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgun season".

Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

Wow Youngbuck you always are the one who has to put the twist on things and think that everyone is against Gun Hunters. Why is that? Are you not secure that you are a ethical hunter? Also sounds like you are try to protect a practice that you do? Are you guilty of the above. Running shots at deer 100 yrds or above? If not why do you keep defending unethical shots in some ones opinion

I believe that plugs would be a great idea. What is the difference between waterfowl and deer. They are both creatures that are hunted in my book.

Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

YoungBuck... Im not here to cause hard feelings. I am not against gun hunters at all. In fact, I started gun hunting, still do, and I actually shot my biggest buck to date I shot durring shogun season. Yes... you make a good point about only 4 shots in a gun... people will still take those long shots. I was just trying to reverse any thoughts of anti-hunting... I am in no way against gun hunters... I am only concerned about the ethics of pumping the air full of lead (and sometimes at long range shots). No hard feelings.

I just don't understand it...

I personally have limited myself by choosing to use a muzzleloader during shotgun seasons. I don't think it would be that big of a deal to have plugs in guns. If you are taking ethical shots, there shouldn't be many circumstances when you should need more than three and if you haven't taken the thing down in three you probably aren't going to hit it anyway. Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

Lets change iowa to all high powered hunting and blaze away!!! SAFETY IN NUMBERS>>>>>LET THE LEAD FLY!!!!

No just kidding. lets get rid of shotgun season................

There will always be some unethical person out there, whether its a guy taking 70 yard shots with a bow, or shooting 200 yard shots with a shot gun. I don't know that you could really eliminate.

Nope, not at all, just a very pro-gun person, I will defend that right every chance I get. Don't even shotgun hunt much, mostly bow and muzzleloader, however, I love to shoot all types of guns and I don't want anyone to prohibit the type or style I shoot. Ever been on a waterfowl forum? Guys there are always complaining about sky busters, they only have three shots, but they are still sky busting. The whole point of this thread was to question wether guns should be plugged or not. Plugging guns will not prohibit anyone from shooting at a running deer at a 100+ yards. Will it? Why did you take this so personal and attack me for being un-ethical? Read the original post, then comment. State your reasons why guns should be plugged, explain your reasoning behind your opinion, I would be real curious as to your explanation on how plugging a gun would keep someone from taking un-ethical shots. Also just to put your mind at ease, I personally have fired three shots in two years of regular shotgun seasons and one late doe season, and the results were three dead deer.

Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

I think that if you see a deer running it doesn't matter u should throw lead the more the better. If I hit in the foot u can catch up to it much quicker in a truck and have time to get reloaded and throw more lead out the window. Cause most gun hunters hunt very unethically. What really ticks me off is that people have more things then me and its not fair.

I didn't say you were unethical. Like I have said before... I like the shotgun seasons too because the neighbors always push deer to key locations on our farm

. Very convinent... Once again: no hard feelings. (anyway, i have a feeling that this thread will be nuked too...)

Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

Mr. Youngbuck, I did not take this so personal. I believe you have, the gentleman that started the question just asked a simple question and You started defending gun hunters. Why didnt you just state your answer? No you had to go on about Sara Brady and anti-hunting.

To answer your question I do believe that you would see less unethical shots because of that deer being shot at 8 times over a 300 yrd distance at 150 yrds you would only have 3 shots being fired at that running deer. Most people would say I only have 3 shots to judge my distance. Will some people still do it, sure they will. But the # would be down, guaranteed.

So to answer your question out right. Yes it would cut down unethical shots because you have less lead to make that unethical shot.

Also good job on 3 shots and 3 deer. I commend you for that. Good shoot'n

Hey everyone...I am definately not sticking up for anyone, not trying to start anything..just getting a little tired of everyone bashing everyone. I mean, I am a shotgun hunter, and I take 5 shots when I get a chance. I am a very ethical hunter, and also a bowhunter. My ethics dont change just cause my weapon changed, and thats what some of you imply. And dont get me wrong, yes, there are some hunters out there that do exceed things. Lets not be against all of eachother...I started shotgunning when I was 14, and its a great way to get with family and friends now that I am working full time and all my buddies are at school. If anything, shotguns should be limited to five slugs, with no extensions. And if you want to sit and limit it to 3 shots, well then lets take away scopes on muzzleloaders, and take away fiber optic sights from bows. Either way, the outcome will be the same, the people that are ethical will continue to be that way, and the people that arent, well, will always find a way to piss people off. And again, I am in no way wanting to start an arguement of any sorts, just tired of hearing a lot of shotgun bashing. I wont be reading this post again, so dont worry about replying to me...have a good day, and I hope I dont offend anyone, definately not trying to, or get anything started....

I think some people lack respect for the animals they take, like posting pics of half skinned deer in the back of pickups then posting them for everyone to see, not a good look for hunting

once you think you've seen it all then it keeps coming! we watched guys take running shots down the middle of the roads over the hill of the road while on the other side was a house and farm acreage! I enjoy gun seasons but we just use our muzzleloaders and do it like we are bowhunting. I think the one thing that happens during gun season is you get lots of once a year hunters who are just out there to get their deer and with a limited time will go at almost anythign to do so. You won't find many people liek those on these sites, they aren't the respectful hunters like most on here.

I think adding plugs won't stop the outrageous shots but may lower the number of shots, people will still unload their guns until they see the deer go down but at least it would lower them from 5+ shots to 3 or whatever it would be shots. just my 2 cents

Re: Should Iowa require plugged guns during shotgu

This is a hunting website or a least it used to be. Plugs to pics what else can we fight about?
