SHROOMS

Sneaky me...... i got out for 45 min today while the little one and the old lady were sleeping. As I got 30 yrds into one of my hot spots there were the grays... all over! Kicking myself for not bring'n a camera, i left them alone.... I walked for 15 more minutes and found an elf batch of tans and yellows, not much longer guys and it should b out of control!!

I agree I spied my eye on about 20 greys that must have just popped. Only about the size of a corn kernel, so hopefully no one will bet me to them this weekend, and it rains enough for me to get atleast one day off this weekend.

typ250, i cant beleive you let em be, that doesnt sound like you. thanks for the input, i agree, we have the moisture, someore heat, look out. todays temps should help. fried potatoes & shrooms, i can taste them now, just need a few crappies in the mix & were set. keep us posted on your finds.

Pics are good!

I'm hoping to get out soon to look around here.

I have heard several people say they have spotted some small greys, looked in a few areas while turkey hunting but nothing yet here.

this is far fetched, but wouldnt it be neat to have a trail cam fast enough , set up in locations where you have always picked them, to get these popping in the act! now that would make a nice video. lets get the pics rolling the next few weeks, it should be a bumper yr.

Last year i tried to dehyrdate them. They actually turned out pretty well. When you are ready to have them, soak in water for 15 minutes prior to cooking and they rejuvenate back to almost fresh picked. The biggest thing we found is that you can’t wash them prior to dehydrating them, otherwise they turn black. Just slice in half and dehydrate. Once rehydrated, you can worry about washing them properly. Yummmmmm!

My fav. recipe is- Dip the shrooms in eggs, then cracker crumbs mixed with garlic powder, fry with butter, then put on a few drops of tobasco sauce or franks redhot sauce. Yummmm.

I dehydrate mine as well only I skip the water rehydration. I like them in egg and cracker also so I just rehydrate in egg.

We always fry them in butter with whatever spices you want so we experimented with a way to preserve them for future use. What worked the best for us is to pre-fry them in butter (kinda like a pre-baked pizza). Basically brown them lightly to medium on one side then set them on a paper towel. After they cool a little bit freeze them in a single layer on cookie sheets. After they are frozen enough to not leach any moisture we vacuum seal them. Then when you thaw them out you simply fry them up any way you want & they are as close to fresh as you can get. If you bread them you can do it before the pre-bake or when you thaw them later; either way works. Try it & you will love it!

You can also soak then in salt water, slice in 1/2, do the egg/flour thing and freeze them on cookie sheets. Then ziplock them.

When your ready to cook them, get the butter hot and drop them in frozen. This keeps them from crumbling...

I dont like freezing them but my way to cook them is cajun fish seasoning, fresh craked pepper, chilli powder and paparika. Get some fresh garlic cloves, mash them up and put them into a pan with oil and butter.... get HOT, then drop anchor!!!... I call it the "spicy madman"...........slap'em on a steak and HOLY COW!!!!

I almost got skunked. I'll have to have a dozen eggs to go with this one. Really late over here for them just to be starting.

typ-250,
sounds awsome, i like hot food , ill give that a try.i usally soak mine in salt water, rince, split. i enjoy them in egg batter, with saltine cracker crumbs, fried potatoes,. i have used ritz crackers to , isnt all that bad. if im in a hurry, i use a fry daddy, get the grease hot, use the basket it came with, & throw them in, when they float to the top, their done, i let them fry a little longer til golden brown.place on a plate with paper towel to absorb the grease, then gobble um up!

Bump, I tried t250's way of cooking them tonight, and the turd head is right, they are good. I put them on top of a nanny steak, and man they were good.

hows everyone doing? i live in central ia, and the medium yellows just started coming, i went out today, and still picked alot of greys. maybe this cool weather will make them stick around longer, my wife is sick of them already as im using up alot of her big bowls to store them, but i think their just getting cranked up around here. we need some warm nights to really get them going. i havent found my big patches as i usally do.hope to run into the monster patch soon! keep postin, happy hunting.

i have a question guys, i was given some shrooms by my nighboor this past weekend and fried them up sunday night. the aftermath was the worst i have felt in a long time. around 2am i started getting a upset stomach, then i started puking all morning until 7. as i am writing this my upset stomach is gone but my back hurts so much from dry heaving and laying in bed all day yesterday. has anybody ever been sick after eating shrooms? i and i dont mean hippie shrooms! this sucks
