Sick to my stomach

BDAHMS

Be here Now
So there he was- the big 10 we have been after. Easily 170 class- would be largest deer to date for me - broadside- I range him - 38 yards. I pull back- deep breath- shoot - didn't see a VERY small branch sticking out and deflected my arrow right over his back. At 10:30 this morning- off he runs healthy as can be. Such a sad- lonely - bad feeling.

What are the odds he will be back for rut?

A clean miss sucks but it's WAY better than a crappy shot and no recovery wondering if he's dead or alive. Did he know what happened after the shot? Know where the arrow came from? If he just acted spooked and not unglued you should be fine.

He just ducked- jumped the fence and in the corn he went. Had about a 140 class ten with him (high and tight from my trail cameras). And high and tight just slowly followed him. Could have shot high and tight but why would I when the monster is still out there!

Going out all day sat and sun next week and see what happens:)n giving it a break til then

Don't worry, he will be back . . . We always get second chances at 170 class bucks . . .

Sorry, I am just kidding. Like the other guys said, he probably doesn't even know what happened.

I hope so- this was the first time I have ever has a shot at a buck of this size- seen some in years past but never shots. And the land owner has seen this deer for a few years now- so he stays in the area! Will feel EXTREMELY lucky to see him again

Yep I had my first bow buck in range 3 different days (IN A ROW)! First day he was making a scrape before it was light enough to see through my peep, second day he was chasing a doe and when I drew back the doe busted me and bolted. Third day he showed up alone. He will be back!

I shot a buck and he came back to the same spot I shot him last night after the morning hunt. He'll be back and you might want to hunt there again and see what happens.

Too many variables to tell. I missed my #1 this year on Oct 4th. He had no clue what happened yet I still didn't get him back in camera until Oct 23rd.

I was going to go out tonight but I'm waiting and will go Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully rut gets him all crazy and runs him right below my stand:)

better than wounding him

Think positive.....he will be back. If there is anytime to accidentally spook him it is right now. The rut will make him forget all about what happened. Best of luck and hope you can stick him later on.

Obviously there are no guarantees but if I had to go with my gut, he'll be back. Didn't smell you/didn't see you = has no clue. Big deer like that have smaller home ranges than some realize. No worries, get back in there.

You guys have me feeling much better about this- I am taking 4 others (my father, brother and two friends) with me hunting all day Saturday and Sunday and actually letting a good friend sit in that area Saturday AM as he hasn't ever really had a chance to kill a big deer. Hopefully come sunday evening I will have some harvest photos for you from myself or one in my group!
