So I ventured out into the timber this past weekend it pursuit of some early drops and I guess I didn't dress accordingly! I'm now paying dearly… Head is pounding, chest and nose is clogged and my muscles feel like you do when you work out for the first time in months!

I was wondering if anyone knows any good med's I might be able to pick up and Walgreen’s on the shelf that can get me by until I can see the doc.

Save your money on the doctor, as it is just going to take time and there aren't drugs that will help a cold/flu (short of some sort of painkiller/sedative to knock you out so you sleep through it). Best bet is to buy some Nyquil Nighttime or Theraflu and hit the sack.

The thing is I can't get in to see my doc until next week and I really can't afford to miss any work. I need something that isn't going to make me tired as hell and can get me by until next week. It definitely doesn't help working nights when u are sick...I suppose I can make an appointment with another doctor but I'm also needing to talk to mine about a prescription refill that she can only sign off on. I dunno....
 
FLU?

Check the website I just posted....if you feel you have the FLU...get to your MD soon and ask for some Tamiflu. If you wait till days after your symptoms have progressed Tamiflu will not help much. If its not flu....JNRBONC has it pretty much summed up.
 
If you have the option do NOT buy the generic form of NyQuil.

Lots of water, TV, and rest.

Lately, when I get a head cold I use the Zicam nasal spray. Especially before going to bed so you can get to sleep.

That's the stuff my doc had me on last week. $80 friggin dollars for 5 days worth but it seemed to help. I still missed two days of work but I was able to participate in my wife's surprise B-day party on Saturday so I guess it was worth it. Ibuprofin and Ny-Quil for the other symptoms seemed to help until the weekend, then I switched on over to Busch Lite and that helped everything but the headache. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

for sinus and chest congestion go to pharmacy counter and get mucinex-D (have to sign for it)
take ibuprofen for the aches and headache. if you are REALLY stuffed up a hot steam shower or when at the pharmacy get a bottle of nasal saline...stuff breaks up the mucus/snot in the nose... of course lot of fluids........good luck
 
Save your money on the nasal saline from the pharmacy. It works like a charm, but your paying for nothing but salt water.

This recipe is from the top allergist in Iowa.
Nasal Saline Irrigation Recipe

2 teaspoons non-iodized salt
1/4 teaspoon of Baking Soda
8 oz. of warm water

mix in mason jar..... use 10 drops or 1 ml/cc in each nostril three times daily (lay on your back and drip 10 drops down each nostril....you will feel it running down toward your throat) This is not the most comfortable, but it works like a charm.
