Well, if it went like this every time you would swear it was too easy but sometimes things just have to go your way. I picked a windy overcast day for my first hunt of the season. I was kind of worried about how the birds would react to the cooler temps and spitting rain but decide to go for it anyway. The wind made it hard to hear the morning gobbles but when they pitched out they got closer to me and really put on a show. Two big mature toms spent the morning chasing off jakes and fighting with each other about 100yds from my blind. I watched this for about 2 1/2 hours and enjoyed the show but grew frustrated when no matter what I tried they wouldn't leave the field. I finally decided to take a nap and wait them out. It worked! I awoke to hear them getting closer. Once they saw my decoys it was a wobbly race to my spread. The lead bird looked to be the biggest so I let him get within 25 yds. before I picked a spot and let the Jack-Hammer eat! The second bird proceeded to do the River-dance on his dead buddies face for a while until I chased him off so i could check out my prize. He is my best archery bird to date. Now its time to guide a couple boys who have been hounding me since youth season opened up!
