smells?

I am having issues with scent control and have tried a lot of different things. I'm new to bow hunting this year and I'm looking for some advice, anyone got any ideas of what to use and what are some of the ones you use? Do you actually use the laundry wash and shower soaps before you go out to the tree?

boy, this could be Pandora's box.....

/forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

here is what i do that works for me!
I wash all my clothes, and cloth type gear, i.e. packs hats etc.
i wash them with H.S. Laundry detergent, often.

i then take a shower before every outing, use scent free, anti perspirant deoderant, and generously spray down with fresh earth scent and dead down wind scent killer sprays....

now while i have had deer down wind and detect me, i have also had deer down wind oblivious to my existence.

but the bottom line is this, HUNT THE WIND!!!!
that is your only safe bet!

i use scent wafers also, in addition to that i use dead downwind mouth spray, i have not been winded this year, could just be luck. and i also hunt the wind in my favor....never forget the wind

I do a lot of the same things! I wear a good amount of Coon piss on my boots to cover my trail from walking in!

I wash clothes as often as possible and spray down everything.

Being scent free when hanging stands is also very important!

First what you need to do is go out and buy $1000 in scent lock gear. Then within days you should have a 200in buck on the ground! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif No THA4 is correct. The best advise anyone could give you is try and set your stands up down wind and always use the wind to your advantage!

I do pretty much the same as above, shower, oderless deoderant, etc., but I also NEVER where my hunting clothes in the house, truck, convenience store, etc. I have to laugh when I see guys filling their trucks with gas in the morning wearing their camo. I wear blue jeans or sweat pants in the truck and when I get to my hunting spot I strip down to my underwear and change outside my truck. When it's really cold, I just put my camo bibs on over my sweatpants. I rarely get winded and I don't spend the Big $$$ on scentblocker/scentlock. This year I rattled in a buck and he even circled downwind and he didn't bust me. I strip down out of my camo when I get done hunting and keep it in a plastic tub with a lid on it. This never comes in the house. Some may think I'm going overboard, but I don't think so. My $.02.

Overboard? You should meet My wife!!! LOL

I have 3 different tubs, one for early season, one for late, and one for shotgun! Then a tub of tracking clothes, and one from trail cam stuff and clothes for doing cameras! Each with their own full spray down and other scents!! She call me obsessed!!!

LOL But I use the same pattern of dressing and undressing!

Do as much to keep yourself and your gear clean, but hunt the wind and don't ever trust that you are "scent free".

You see the "pros" get winded on camera and they're covered in thousands of dollars worth of Scent Blocker or Scent Lok, only way to win at shooting big bucks is to play the wind each and every time.

Sorry Andy, but are you sure it's "coon" piss? Lol!

Anyway, I do the same thing but I make sure to leave my clothes hanging on the line as much as possible. Unfortunately I have neighbors who like to burn leaves only when my clothes are on the line!

My olfactory senses doesn't work, never has. So I am sent challenged. Deer smelled me last year big time. The only way I was seeing deer was chasing them up. My buddy had deer walk right by him. I finally wound up spraying doe sent all over me. After I did that, I started seeing deer. Hey I couldnt smell it, so I didn't care how much I stunk.

This year I am using the special soap, detergents, etc, dressing in the field, playing the wind, everything.

Typed it, and never even saw it coming!! Good jab good jab!! (applauding Gremlin)

Leadhead...most of us on here this time of year are bowhunters, so we are absolutely obsessed with being scent free...one thing don't forget is your entrance and exit to your stand is as important as the wind blowing. If you can't get in and out "clean" on a regular basis, you will have a short-lived stand. I have had success spraying my boots with a scent-illiminator (actually the best I found was a recipe off the internet), and then ONLY using those boots to hunt with...but again taking them on and off in the grass...etc...etc....

hahaha stellar

I'm of the opinion that unless you're wearin' a full containment bio suit complete with re breather, your time and money would be better spent scouting, patterning deer movements and proper stand placement. playing the wind is everything.

I have talked to a couple guy's about some silver spray products. have any of you used or heard of them? I'll get some coon piss today.
