Interesting observations I’ve seen. The only time I check a deer out is when it’s a friend or something unique/cool. & I always go through the comments. I am happy to say, MOST people are GOOD. Most people are kind.
There’s a few categories of “other” & it’s “interesting” to try to think down on why people say what they do….
a funny one: 1) the internet police!! If u do something incorrect, some dudes duty to correct you. I’ll give u a recent funny example…. I was cutting a deer up & yes, I make a mess- I was hacking into some fat with some friends. I didn’t cut the fur away super great & got some fur on the back strap. Brought it inside …. Washed it. Trimmed it and let it soak in salt water. Pure lean deliciousness!! The amount of comments was hilarious. Correcting me like an old hag of a teacher with a student. That one is funny & no big deal. But internet police watching every detail & correcting anything they can point out that someone gets wrong- pretty funny.
2) any big deer…. “bet it’s high fence”. “How many acres do you own?” “Try doing that on public land!” “I don’t see deer like that where I hunt”. “Rich man’s sport”. “Bet he poached it”. “Doesn’t mean you’re a better hunter, try doing that in XYZ state”. WHATEVER!!!!!! Now, what every person with any comment like this doesn’t understand, IMO- deer hunting isn’t a competition. least not how I view it. I personally think folks have this intense drive to post a buck & it bothers them when they don’t or can’t. Jealous when others do.
These are general comments & I only noticed a small handful on buck I shot (like less than 1%- which is great). Why I posted here & the waited days to post anything - because I don’t care about posting on social media. It’s a small bit of fun sharing pics but absolutely not why I hunt & not why others hunt. I’ve said this before to young hunters- hunt because u love it. Hunt for the experience. Hunt for yourself. Or memories with fam/friends. Hunt so u can take in God’s creation & spend time with him. DON’T hunt so u can post a buck or for the ego reasons. Or view it as a competition. IF YOU DO- I believe that reason & the jealousy along side it will eventually ruin the hunting experience for people. It will make it far less enjoyable.
This post is just me thinking a little deeper on why folks comment the way they do. It’s why 1 of the 10 commandments is THOU SHALT NOT COVET. It’s human nature. The only thing I personally will do when I see these comments - when it’s maybe towards a new hunter or really anyone- I’ll speak up and call em out. U rip on a buddy or a stranger, I think u make a fool of yourself but I’ll personally defend someone if appropriate. & with all that said - 99-% of what I see is good, decent & kind. & we can’t lose site of that. I want young hunters to really think about why they hunt & strengthen the reasons we hunt. I believe the future of hunting & hunters themselves will be in a better place if we keep all this in mind IMHO.
