Land of the Whitetail
What do you consider southern IA? I've heard some people consider DSM and Newton as southern IA, although I am sure if considered that they would be the far northern part of southern IA. Many consider south of 80 to be southern IA. What do you consider? Southern two, three, four tiers? I would say the southern three tiers. I would never really consider DSM to be southern IA, but then again the south side of DSM does go into Warren county and thats really where the hills and timber sections start. Just something I've always wondered, what do you think?

As far as the rest of the state is concerned, everything south of 34 is Missouri. :)

In my opinion southern Iowa is the bottom three tiers at the most.

Ive always considered the southern three tiers as well. Whenever you start seeing those old twisted wooden fence posts and mowing ditches is a waste of time and money. I see that and I instantly think ... " big buck country "!

Well, to be totally correct, Take I 80 and anything North of it is Northern Iowa, and anything south of it is Southern Iowa.

The bottom 2 tiers of counties. I grew up in Marion county, and there is a HUGE difference between many of the counties in the third tier and the lower two tiers. After venturing south and hunting in Van Buren, Davis, Monroe, Appanoose, and Decatur counties, I was in heaven. A completely different world.

Amen to that! God's country down here!

I’m only 15 miles from the MN border, and have been all my life. So to me anything south of Mason City is Southern Iowa.
