Special Antlerless season

I saw there are 4 counties showing a special antlerless season this year. I was not a resident her in IA when they had this season previously. But from the looks of it, it appears you can use a rifle .24 caliber or larger? Super neat, shed buck season!!! Also it appears they are cutting 5 days off of bow season this year...interesting..

The 5 days that are "lost" before shotgun season get added on after the shotgun split. There are the same amount of bow hunting days, it just depends where the shotgun season falls.

How do you see 5 days being cut off? I don't follow that. I was surprised the shed buck season was back... yay
The first bow split ends Nov 30th this year. Last year it was Dec 5th. I realize we get back a few days with the late split but we all know its not the same as having it on the early split

Ah, I follow ya now. Shotgun 1 could be good for some late run action

I really see it die off after thanksgiving. I get the biggest stranger bucks on camera the week of thanksgiving though.

Yup. Gun 1 is always 1st Saturday so it's no different than any other year just the 1st is a Saturday. The late antlerless season was a hot topic in the DNR meeting during the IBA banquet and nobody was in favor of it but that fell on deaf ears with the CWD fear

The late antlerless season is in the counties where CWD has been found. Part of the "kill them all" plan or the "we have to look like we are doing something" plan. I can't tell which one it is.

What counties,?
Read the regs..

I hunt Thanksgiving time for that reason too. All the big dominant guys are still going strong where the smaller guys have tired out. Last two years I've seen my biggest deer Thanksgiving morning.
