Steelhead 100??????

I was getting my quiver ready for opener and putting on some new Rocket SteelHead 100 heads. The tread barely contacts the incerts, one won't even grab enough to tread. Did I miss something when I picked these up or are they defective? From the shoulder to the end of the treads they are more than an 1/8 shorter than my field tips.

not 100% on the Steelheads but I do know that the Ultimate Steels hardly had enough thread to tighten, I think they addressed it later in production....any chance your insert is the culprit?

They are all the same and my field tips are all plenty long. The one that won't grab at all must be a little different than the others, but there is almost no tread making contact on any of them.

This is a common problem, especially if your using Gold Tips. My cousin and I have both had this problem, my buddy uses Eastons and no problems there. We have had several actually fall off when shooting deer, at least 3 times I can think of. Last year I shot a doe, didnt find the arrow until this spring. Weird thing was it was stuck in the dirt, no broadhead. I dont think the broadhead was in the ground either because the insert was packed with dirt. The head appears to have fallen off either within the deer (dont remember what the exit wound looked like) or between the deer and the ground. Killed the doe though.

I like these heads and they shoot great, but they are worthless on my arrows. Kind of a bugger to change blades as well. If I shoot mechanicals again I'm trying the Tekan II's. I would not recommend you shoot them unless you fix the problem.
Good luck...

I have heard of this on another forum. Sounds like this was a fubar with the older steelheads and has been addressed since Trophy Ridge bought them out.Try doing a search on Archery Talk . com to find out the particulars on this.

Mine were purchased a couple years ago so you may be correct.
Personally I did not have good luck getting pass-thru's with them but my friends seem to. Shooting about 65lbs with a 29" GT so I would think thats plenty of KE? I can only remember getting 1 pass-thru out of apprx 6 deer with the Steelheads. Many times the were sticking out the opposite side, which always resulted in a broken arrow.I cant recall any shots with fixed blades in recent years that were not pass-thru's, for what its worth.

Come to think of it, other then them shooting great and being relatively cheap, I'm not too sure why I like them!

I did a search at Archerytalk.com and there seems to be an issue with tread contact with the steelheads. I would not recommend these to anyone until you're sure this issue has been address. I hate learning the expensive way.

I, and several buddies, have used the Steelhead 100's with excellent results. We noticed the threads were a bit shorter, but with a little bow wax on the threads we've never had any problems - and this includes Steelheads back to 2002. Two of us are shooting ACC's, one uses Axis ST's and the other GT's.

My buddy hosed another doe Friday morning with a steelhead. Another pass-thru. Only hit one lung and still died within 60 yards, which surprised both of us. Almost a non-existent blood trail, but the doe I double lunged tonight with a Muzzy had a poor blood trail as well. Nice quartering away pass-thru shot, maybe a tad higher than I would like. She also only made it about 60 yards. I guess it just goes to show you can't put a whole lot of stock in just what the blood trail looks like.

I may switch arrows after the season. If I do I will make sure the inserts make better contact, with these heads, than what ever are in the Beamans I am shooting now. I hear a lot of good things about the steelheads but that half of a turn contact on the threads bothered me badly.
