I got a replacement unit on Monday. Here is a copy and paste of the email I sent them this afternoon:
Hello Damon,
I received a rebuilt Garmin on Monday. Reading through the enclosed service report it appears, if I read it right, that you couldn't find anything wrong with the unit I sent in for repairs. The service report states "Unit meets operational performance specifications". The service report goes on to suggest I had improperly sized (length) batteries and as a result, the impropperly sized batteries resulted in the failure of my Legend C to power up. If this is indeed the case why wouldn't the unit power up with the lighter adapter or the USB cable?
Included in the package was a replacement lighter adapter. The replacement lighter adapter packaging indicates the adapter is for the eTrex Legend Cx, eTrex Vista Cx, eTrex Venture Cx, Forerunner 301 and the Edge 205/305. Will the adapter work properly with my eTrex Legend C? If I use it and notice the unit becoming hot again should I discontinue using the adapter and contact you for another replacement? Will my USB cable work properly? I do not want to use my unit until I know I'm not harming it with either the lighter adapter or the USB cable.
Thanks for your quick replies in the recent days and I look forward to another quick reply.
TT
In the service report it indicated I should discard the old adapter. I think they had a probelm with their lighter adapters and aren't fessin up. I'm not using it till I hear back.
The time line: Sent in on the 6th of Feb., Garmin received it on the 12th of Feb., I received a rebuilt unit on the 19th of Feb. complete with a service report that I don't necessarily belive and a new lighter adapter. Very quick responses to emails wondering about the staus of the unit.
I'll keep you posted.
