STS

Have debated on buying an STS for my new bow for a long time, but after reading all the rave reviews I thought I would give it a shot, plus the fellas at the archery shop told me to shoot it and if I didn't like it to bring it back, pretty much a win win situation.

Anyhow, for anyone interested in one I will give a brief review. I bought the plain black STS, with the new stopper, made by BowJax I believe. They do come in camo but the extra 15 bucks for camo just wasn't worth it and I would have had to order it.

As far as installation the STS is super easy to install, the directions aren't even the clearist and I had it up and ready to shoot in about 3 minutes. I have the rear mount version and it simply screws into the back of the stabilizer port. The one thing that is a bit of a hassle is with the rear mount STS the slider interfers with my wrist sling a bit, so I had to do some adjustments. Anyhow, I started off with the string touching (just barely) the sts stopper like mentioned in the directions, clamped it down and headed to the range (depending on your bow the stopping point for the STS stopper may have to be adjusted so it is not touching the string but just bairly offset). Took it out and fired about 50 arrows and after the first one I was convinced. My bow was already quiet, but I could tell a noticeable difference in sound. Also, after shooting a few groups I noticed I was much more consistent and didn't loose a bit of speed (at least noticeably) as I didn't have to adjust a single pin. Now the groupings being better could have just been the day and the fact that I have been shooitng much more recently, but I was getting consistent groups out to 40 yds.

Anyhow the reduction in noise was worth the money and the better groupings is a bonus. I know a lot of guys here probably already use an STS or similar product but I hadn't seen a review so I wanted to post a bit about it since I felt it was a quality product.

Great Review!

I will also second his statement. I have found that sometimes you need a 1/16th of a inch between stopper and string though.

I think they are a wonderful product! Just wished the company would stock enough parts to fill orders. Been waiting for our shipment for A LONG TIME NOW!!!!!!!

Kansasdeerslayer,

You might want to check out a String Tamer made by Norway Ind. (they also make duravanes). I have an STS on my hoyt but just picked up one of these String Tamers for my new Guardian. I think it looks much better than the STS. I'll try to link you.

In your opinion, would the use of an STS type product eliminate the need for standard string suppresors? I am having trouble keeping silencers on my Guardian. As soon as one flies off, the string noise increases noticeably. I guess there is just too much POWER!!!!

jkratz,

Watch the portion of your string that makes contact with the stopper. It's recommended to serve your string where it makes contact with the stopper to help keep life to your string.

About an inch of string comes in contact with the stopper on the STS, at least the new stopper. They provide serving and recommend using it but read alot about just ensuring that you wax your bow a little more in that area and you will have no problem. For now I do not have the serving on, if I notice any wear however I am gonna slap it on.

I also have had a problem with the string leaches on my tribute, one is gone (top one on the string) however in doing a background search on the STS alot of guys say they have completely stripped their Guardians and Tributes of the string silencers as the STS does a better job than the standard ones.

I took the string silencers off of my guardian and am just using a String suppressor. I haven't noticed much of a change in noise.

I too took all my string silencers off the guardian and am just using the sts. BowJax makes a string silencer that slips over your string instead of you splitting your string. That would prly cure loosing them often. I just put an order in for a bunch of Bowjax stuff. I'll see how they work...

every bowtech i've had blew the string silencers off......too much power! that top one hurts and scares the crap out of you when it hits you in the melon. boyd gave me a couple bowtech silencers that you slip over the stirng and tie on, so they are out there. send him a pm, i'm sure he could sell you some

Boyd put a new slip on silencer on my Guardian, only lasted about 40 shots though. I think the STS might be the way to go.

The string silencers are never put back on my bows after "Crackers" makes my new strings and I havent noticed a difference in noise on my Ally or Guardian.
