I added an STS to the rickity old hoyt I shoot and removed the string leaches. I picked up 10 FPS. I was very surprized!

Afer I got home I served the string at the STS and shot in the yard a bit. I think the bow is some loader. I may put the leaches back in. 10 FPS realy floored me. Do you all think this bow should be quieter with the STS and no leaches or pre STS with leaches?
 
If it seems noisy try a cat whisker or two on it. I know that seems cheesy that those things won't work but they do. I have witnessed the faster speeds with the addition of the STS and also increased volume, but the whiskers really helped.
 
I agree with the cat whiskers idea. They seemed to quiet mine down better than the leaches not to mention they last forever while the leaches may last 500 shots.
 
whiskers are the best. I had an sts and took it off cuz of noise. If you are going to go with the "leech" family the bats are considerably better.
 
My guess is that it might be quieter with leeches and no STS. I put a Meanv STS on my Guardian just because I couldnt keep the stock silencers on. I suppose I could have just used cat wiskers (what fun would that be?

). I definately gained speed and the STS killed all the string "twang", but I did pick up a thump noise from the STS.
My gut feeling is that it was slightly quieter in factory form, but definately faster now as well as other benefits gained. I'm very happy with my sts and plan to keep it.
 
Play around with the distance b/t the rubber dampener and the string. It can be different for every bow. On my Hoyt, I started with the string barely touching, and it reduced the handshock, but seemed to make a loud "slap". I finally settled on a 1/8" gap b/t dampener and string, and now it's much quieter. I forgot to mention--this was all without leeches or whiskers.
 
I put the STS system on my bow this year and I also removed the string leeches. My bow picked up some speed, and I am positive that it shoots quieter. I am very pleased with it.

First thing I did on my new Vectrix, was to remove the string leeches and put a cat whisker on down by the STS. Very noticible difference.

I have bats on mine...they work well.
