I've been working on clearing a 1.5 acre area I plan on frost seeding to CIR switch this winter to help funnel deer between feeding and bedding areas. The trees are all shagbark hickories with the exception of a hedge or two. I'm almost finished with it but have decided after dropping the last 30 trees to go ahead and rent a stump grinder to finish them off. The first 30 or so trees have already been cut into firewood and stumps cut off at ground level where I can mow without worry. I treated these with Tordon after cutting.
The last 30 or so hickories I just cut were left with the stumps at approx 18" so I could easily find them. And since I'm tired of sharpening chains from cutting through dirt. I figured I would just cut them short next week and finish them with a stump grinder.
I guess my question is. Does Tordon still work well on stumps that have been ground or does grinding affect the ability of it to absorb Tordon into the cambium?
