Sugar Bottoms

Does anyone on here know anything about sugar bottoms public hunting near Coralville Lake. I met a guy that told me I should concentrate on this area during bow season.

Sugar Bottom is an area around the Coralville Res, under the control of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 2850 Prairie Du Chien Rd Ne, Iowa City, IA 52240-7820. You can request a map from them. There are tons of deer in the area as well as a LOT of hunting pressure. I've only hunted the Res ground two or three times, so can't offer any first hand advice. The Hawkeye Wildlife area around the Res is roughly 14,000 acres, so you should be able to find a place to hunt.

Sugar Bottom is nice but you will have to get off the beaten path, not only because of hunting pressure but because of how popular that area is for hikers. If it were me I'd concentrate on Hawkeye Wildlife area.

There are a lot better places to focus on during bow season than Sugar Bottom. Lots of hikers, mountain bikers, and pressure in general. The best part of sugar bottom is somewhat reserved to the private lands surrounding it.

Like was mentioned above head to Hawkeye. It's pretty large and i would concentrate on either the S.W side or N.W side. I used to work there for the IDNR and I saw some real brutes.

Typical public ground, get there early and go deep.

I know of some other smaller public offerings in the area, but I'm selfish on those spots.
