Mid 80's here in Kansas.Look on the bright side.If you can't kill a deer you can kill you're limit of mosquitos.Wonder what the bag limit is on mosquitos?Last season on opening day I lost so much blood I about past out and fell out of my tree.
This issue also begs the question: What do you do to keep the deer from spoiling before you can get it to the locker? I am afraid if I shoot a deer on Sunday it will rot in the 75+ temps. I thought about bags of ice in the body cavity and fans. Any other suggestions?
i dont think the meat will spoil.... when i lived in california it was upper 90s on most opening days and we never had any problems getting them to a locker before they spoiled but the safe bet would be the ice
Unfortunately, Shackdaddy, it is supposed to be up around 80. With it being cooler all week and then warming up on sunday, the deer probably won't be moving much. You can bet I will be in the stand anyway. Good luck!!
I have to work Sunday so it doesnt matter much to me, but I'm off Monday and would appreciate some cool temps. That is always the problem with early season hunting and I dont usually go out unless I think I have time to hunt and process what I might shoot right away. I'm not much on aging meat when its shorts weather.
I am praying for these current cool temps to return for early ML season.
I'm waiting until Monday morning anyway but I have killed them on a weekend. I just bone em out and put in 5 gallon buckets (with plastic bags in them) and stick it in the freezer. Not my preferred method...but I'm not leaving a deer hanging in 80 degree weather
Monday morning I can drop a deer off at the locker and it can hang at the proper temp. Supposed to 88 degrees Monday so not expecting to much...
The 10 day forecast is showing 60's for most of next week and into the following weekend. I think I'll shuck the 80 degrees and skeeters Sunday and take the kid fishing instead
We do most of our own processing so no big deal. We just quarter it up and throw it in the fridge, buddy has one in his garage just for beer and deer. If it came to it my neighbor has a small walk in.
The pressures we put up with unbelievable isn't it. Cut my hunt short Sunday morning so I can help with the Department pancake breakfast(every year on opening weekend). Then in the evening I have to rush home so I can watch the Chicago game, hate to be pesimistic but I suppose they will lose this one.
For me its supposed to be in the upper 80's Sunday And Monday. After that its showing low 70's. I would rather like low 60's but its better than the upper 80's I guess. Good luck to everyone that goes out!
kinda glad the temps are going to be up. i have a wedding reception saturday night, so i don't think i'll make it out. may try to shoot a goose or 2 saturday morning, but sunday will most likely be spend trying to get my head and stomach back under control
