Switchback vs outback

Was wondering how many of you have shot both bows and what if anything is the major difference between the 2. Is it worth the upgrade??? I am waiting for a bow shop to get a left-handed switchback in to try it out for myself.

Your probley going to wait a while. Not too many shops will stock a $800.00 Left handed bow.

that's what you get for being wired up backwards..

your best bet might be to go to a big chainstore, like scheels, they would probably have them in stock right now. shoot both, then start shopping for a price, or make your order from your local shop

Now with all of the mathews freeks/diehards on this site, I can't believe that no one has shot the new switchback yet. Doesn't anyone have an opinion???

I have shot the Switchback and I was sold. I bought one on the spot. The dealer said he ordered 12 or so and he only had two left the night I stopped. It may be weeks before he gets more in. Each dealer is allowed so many, then they get on a list for more. I had shot a buddys Outback and it was SWEEEEET!! If I had an Outback I don't know if I would have upgraded or not but for an extra $100 why not get the new model? Can't wait to chase long-beards with it this spring!

I haven't shot the Switchback but probably will at some point. I can't imagine how it could be significantly better than the Outback.

I shot the new Switchback at the ATA Show this weekend. Very quite, fast and smooth. It is a mix of the LX and Outback, if that helps. I really liked it and should be getting mine in the mail really soon. I have to say (since I shoot for them) that it is worth the upgrade, go buy one right now! My personnal advice is go shoot it and see what you think. It's a little faster and let's off a little further back, which is how they got some of the extra speed. Not much creap, if you know what I mean. I really liked it though, I shot the LX last year and didn't even take the free Outback!

I've got an Outback, and have shot the Switchback quite a bit since we've got them in the store. The biggest thing that I notice with the Switchback is the hand shock or the fact that there is NONE. The 10 fps difference isn't that big of deal in my opinion.
Talking to the Mathews reps, they're saying that the new strings and cables are the biggest difference from the Outback. They're going to make them for all of their models, so if you're not in the market for new bow, I'd try the Baracuda strings at least.

For not being a 'Mathews Guy' I was really impressed with how well the new Switchback shot. (My fellow Hoyt guys don't jump on my case, I like to test new equipment at the shop to better educate myself and to relay this info to my customers...) I also found the new Switchback to have very little vibration and was very quite. The new zebra baracuda strings is something I think the 'mathews guys' will enjoy. In my opinion the Swithback is worth the extra money.

I talked to the guy at the local shop in our neck of the woods and he talked to Mathews and inquired about putting the new strings on an Outback. They said they could do it but it would be an $80 upgrade. Didn't think that was worth it.

I was just wondering after reading all these posts - what are you guys talking about when you refer to "upgrading"? Is this something offered through Matthews or just through dealers? And is it a legitimate "swap" meaning you trade your outback in for a new switchback at a cost of $100.00? I've heard that some dealers have programs like this but have never really looked into it. I bought the Outback last year and my dealer never mentioned anything about a trade-in or upgrage program. Any info would be appreciated.

I think it was meant that they were buying a new one. Wondering if the price difference ($100) was worth it to get the switchback over the outback. Unless, I misread it.

I shoot a hoyt now, but am in the market for a new bow. Shot the Switchback this weekend and was quite impressed. Quiet and absolutely no hand shock. The valley was sufficient and the wall was fairly firm. I have never shot the Outback, but would say the Switchback is sweet.

I still need to shoot the VTec - the apple of my eye. I scanned some forums and did see a number of posts regarding idler wheel lean, uneven string supressor wear, and out of spec ATA on the Switchback. Don't know if this means the bow needs constant "mothering" to keep it in spec, or it's just a coincedence. But I went to the store expecting to walk out with a Hoyt, but now will need to take a much closer look at all my options. Good luck with your decision.

I have been looking at new bows myself. I shot the Switchback and was impressed, but for almost $200 dollars less the Justice by Bowtech was quite impressive. I'm leaning towards the Bowtech, but I'm still shooting everything I get my hands on.

I have shot them both and there is no comparison in my opinion. The Switchback is an awesome bow. I shoot the Legacy now and love it but after shooting the Switchback I decided that I had to have one. Here is where it gets interesting, the price varies greatly depending on where you live. I have a buddy that hunts with me who lives in Georgia, his local bow shop quoted him $600 plus tax for the Switchback. Needless to say that he will be bringing me up one when he comes up for turkey hunting. Hope this helps someone save some money, check with your friends if you have anyone that lives down south.
