Target buck got killed...what a sick feeling

Found out today from a neighbor that my target buck for this year got killed. Explains why I hadn't seen him, but I was able to stick a really nice 9 on the morning of the 6th. While in a stand last night trying to stick a doe, saw a really nice one running around that I thought was "Blade" but obviously wasn't. A quick visit to the Drury website confirmed the neighbors story. Jared Lurk harvested "Blade" on Halloween morning....my guess was right that he was a 5 1/2 year old. Went 158 5/8". I basically should have had 2 chances at this deer...once I was on the other side of the farm, and the other I was in class as he stood 49 yards from my tree at 7:05 am. I hunted him hard, just never crossed paths this year. Last year I had him at 15 yards, just couldn't get a shot before he got nervous and left.

heres the story...

Congrat to Jared, happy for him, just wish he would have been hanging over my fire place...but like I said I got the opportunity to kill a nice 9 instead. I hunted him hard, sometimes its just luck of the draw.

Heres a couple of pictures I had of him...

Great deer, sorry you didn't get him, but at least he was taken by a hunter and not hit by a car or poached.

Ironically with the 'over estimated' theads going, I would have over estimated this deer by about 15"....but I don't claim to be any good at guessing scores anyway!

Thats why we love this stuff so much, you just never know when it will come together, and when it does, its that much sweeter:) There will be another.....

You should move to minnesota that happens every with the gun season. Hunt a target buck all fall with the bow then gun season comes DEAD.

sounds like he worked for it! Cool that you were able to have a history with him and now know his demise.

Good stuff

Jared must have been a step ahead of ya :)

Haha the deer was a step ahead of me. Jared was just in the right place at the right time. I figured he was in our North corner, but could never get up there with the right wind. And when there was the right wind, I was either in Class or at baseball. I wasnt going to risk it with a deer like this without the right wind.

He does this for a living, along with a pharmasist, so he knows a little more than I do and prolly has a little more time with me being a full time student and playing college baseball. Congrats to him. Still waiting to hear back from him on if he wants copies of my trail cam pictures...figured it was the nice guy thing to do and more documentation for him to have. Hope they would do the same for me if I were to harvest one of their target deer.

I hope you do harvest one of their target deer so Jared can experience what you're going through...it might give us an honest evaluation of their hunting camp.

I think it says a lot about your character to not be on here pissing and moaning about it, so CONGRATS on being a sportsmen about it all. So it goes with free range deer.

Find another, and grind it out for him.

ps-maybe you need a MAXDRAW foodplot :p

Awesome buck, hopefully none of your stands are close to any of the pictures you put on here because that looks like a bait station to me?:confused:
