Techniques for two hunters in timber?

I've only hunted whitetails once in Iowa, and it was with a larger group of guys. This season, just one other person and myself. Any learned opinions on the best ways to maneuver (or stay put) to put ourselves in position to have some deer come across our path? We will not have access to any stands.

One hunter stalks the ridge top facing the wind. The second hunter walks halfway down the hill 15 minutes behind the first hunter facing the wind. This will also work walking sloughs or other types of cover. Usually the second hunter wil get the shots.
