This article was emailed to me, it's from the Dallas Morning News. I'm not sure what to think of it. What is deer hunting coming to????

Note that QDM non-compliance is a felony in Texas!

TPWD Field Notes:

"If the guide says no, he means NO!

On Nov. 8, a Schleicher County Game Warden received a call from a landowner agent informing him that one of his hunting clients had taken a white-tailed buck without consent. Upon investigation it was determined the out-of-state hunter was being guided by the agent and wanted to shoot a buck they had seen. The guide opposed and told him repeatedly not to shoot the deer because it was not a mature buck. The hunter stated he did not care and he was going to shoot it anyway. When interviewed about the incident, the hunter stated he did not know why he shot the deer and offered to pay for it. The landowner was adamant about charges being filed, so the county attorney was contacted and the case reviewed. State jail felony charges of take wildlife resource, white-tailed deer, without consent of the landowner were filed. The subject was arrested, bond set, and placed in jail.
Restitution on the 120-class buck is also pending."

I see nothing wrong with this. This year I told the people hunting my farm (no money changed hands) that small bucks were off limits. If they had shot one, I would have kicked them off my property for life. I doubt I would have went so far as legal recourse, but if they were paying customers....

I may get belittled for this one but I think if a guy is paying $$ and in this case likely good money then he should be allowed to shoot whatever buck pleases him.

There's a good example of what hunting has turned into for a larger group of people than we'd like to admit.

I won't belittle your comment. Maybe look at it from the QDM side of things. If the landowner/outfitter are really trying to manage their bucks, then why should they allow a hunter to shoot just any buck. It would be interesting to see if the hunter was supplied with any rules pertaining to the hunt? As in what bucks he would be able to shoot and the penalties for not following these guidelines.

I see your point...to a degree. One has to wonder if this QDM will go tofar. These after all are wild animals not herds of cattle. They are not owned by the landowners whther they think they are or nor. Yes QDM had alot of positives but don't you think there are negatives too?? I have to think that a guy who paid somebody to let him hunt ending up in jail because he shot a 120" buck is a negative that could far outweigh the positives of passing that buck up just b/c some guide told him to. I gotta wonder what on earth the world of hunitng is coming to down there in places???

$$$$ and more $$$$. My kids better be doctors or something to be able to afford it in 20 years.

This is unclear to me- is the landowner, the landowner agent, and guide all the same person here? Was it shot on the land the guide was operating on or across the fence? Why pay a guide if you aren't going to listen to him- if you are in it just for the horns on a paid hunt, the guide must know that a mature buck is around.
