The Big 10

Wish this was my story but one of our HS kids said it was OK to post this on here...

WOW! What a start to the year!!!! :D This is Team Kehoe's first year on the OO team and we got one down early. This summer my dad and I have worked extremely hard preparing for the year. We put in over 10 acres of food plots and over 10 of indian grass. My dad also in the spring did some timber stand improvement in certain sections of the farm to thicken it up. We were hoping that all this work would pay off in the end.... and it did!!! My brother Ty, started hunting this year so to prepare for that, we planted a little bean plot at the beginning of June so by the time youth season and the start of bow season the beans would still be green and flowering. He went out 2 times, the first night he had a 130 8 point that he couldn't get a shot on and a 135 inch 10 pointer that he got buck fever on and couldn't shoot  But none the less he had fun and he has many many years to come.

With knowing that good bucks were coming out over the beans during daylight, I knew that October 1st I had to hunt over that field. The only stand we had was 40 yards away over a connecting chickory food plot. To hunt this stand it had to be some north wind. So throughout the week me and my teacher, Gladiator, at school were checking the weather and the wind seeing if it was changing because it started out to be south. By the end of the week it switched to NE and I knew exactly where I was going to sit. So October 1st comes around and I am just itching to get out. We get out to the timber at about 4:30 and walk about a quarter mile in to the stand. Since it is our first year filming it took a good 40 minutes to get set up :shifty: But we managed to get everything ready by about 5:10. This was the first night my dad had ever run the camera so while we were in the stand I was having him practice taking video of anything he could and practice where we thought a buck would come in. At 5:30 we had an 8 pointer come from right behind the stand and work out across the chickory into the beans. Then 2 does and 2 little bucks filtered into the beans at 5:50. Then my dad says "Brooks I can hear 2 big bucks fighting down below us" we listen and hear 2 big bucks going at it for a few minutes. At about 6:05 we can see a decent 8 point out across in the indian grass and about a minute later my dad says "Buck behind us, big 10 pointer. I look back and BOOOOM!! 10 yards behind my was a buck we named the big 10 which we have had on the farm for 3 years and ive been after for 2. So Im shaking like a dog right now and he is eating acorns right below me. Then he works his way from behind us and does a complete semi circle to about 7 yards broadside in front of me and I put a rage in the cage!!!! He instantly started bleeding and I knew I put a good shot on him. He ran out of the chickory and along the standing corn and timber. I knew that I had hit him good but we never heard him crash. So after making all my phone calls we get down and follow the blood trail and 70 yards later at the edge of the timber there he lies!!! This buck I was at full draw twice last year and didnt get a shot and I missed him last year late muzzleloader and just couldn't get him off my mind. I have passed a ton of good bucks just waiting for this one and it all payed off!! He ended up scoring 151 gross, with 9 points on the left and 6 on the right for a total of 15. I couldn't be more thankful and blessed to have this buck and it couldn't of been a more perfect way to start the season. I would like to thank Gladiator for all his help getting our camera and everything he's done and my dad for filming. So now after further ado... HERE HE IS!!!!!
