We already have a plate full of ideas.

Old Buck is right, things will only start to change when the hunters in MN change the mindset on harvesting the younger bucks. The DNR is probably not going to put minimum standards in place or make drastic changes to the season dates. I was smiling this year when I talked to two different guys at work, who said their parties were only shooting 3 1/2 yr. olds. I think in time this may just catch on. To all of the MN hunters, do what you can to encourage friends and fellow hunters to pass on the younger bucks. I too wish I could draw an IA tag more often, but every 2-3 yrs. will have to do. The only thing that hasn't been addressed by the residents on this thread is why the state doesn't allow more antlerless tags to be purchased by NR's. If given the chance NR's will gldly take the chance to get another deer for the freezer and help landowners with thier deer problems.
And don't say we Nr's won't help. Every year our group of 3 doesn't draw buck tags we fork out $130-$220 for a chance at an antlerless deer on a farm we hunt. Our state of WI has so many areas with deer problems that half the state requires a doe before you get a buck tag and unlimited antlerless liscense for $20 for NR's yet I never see any Iowans here to help with our deer problems. We'll be down Dec 30-31 to try for our does this year. It would be nice to have the oppurtunity for more antlerless tags at a cheaper rate.
I talked with the head deer biologist this spring and unfortunately he said that my opinions were in the minority. Everyone have a great Xmas

Well as a NR of Iowa and a R of Illinois I hope you residents are able to keep the things the way they are. I hunted Iowa this year and it was one of my most enjoyable hunting trips I have had in the 25+ years I have bowhunted. Our cap here in Illinois was just raised by the DNR (so they can make more money) and now a lawsuit has been filed like the one USO did in Arizona. They are trying to remove our cap completely.

I have no problem waiting to get my turn to hunt there. IMO Iowa's people and deer herd are top notch........

I saw the title on this thread and knew where it would go without even reading it. Comes up every year ...and as always... I support the cap. I'm just happy I get to hunt there from time to time. By the way I only had a doe tag up there this year and for the first time in many years I didn't fill an Iowa deer tag. Had no shots at a doe and many at bucks. Got a great spot to pick up another buck next year.

I for one am real tired of the R-NR division. I have been as guilty as anybody. We are all hunters and need to devote any energy we have to fighting the antis. As a NR landowner, I am not going to try to convince any of you to work for my interests. I have made those arguments on another post and only fueled the division. Some things about Iowa dont need fixin. Your deer are excellent, the land is beautiful and the people are genuine and good friends. I am woried about your system for game management, that is the hunting is governed by politicians and not the DNR. I worry anytime politicans meddle in my hunting rights. The DNR is more accountable to hunters and does not get the special interest pressures exerted on the legislature. I think you are in a dangerous, dangerous situation, but if you residents are happy with it, who am I to complain. Someone on the other post told me to respect the law. Another stated that I knew the law when I bought land. To that I will say, abortion is legal. I must accept that law for now. I do not respect that law and I will work to change it, so you see, change is sometimes warranted. Finally, I respect the opinions of my fellow activists here. If I disagree with you, it is best kept private and lets not fuss in front of the public. The PETA types must grin from ear to ear when they read this stuff. I for one wont give them the satisfaction anymore. I thank god for all you hunters. If all were like you, we wouldnt need locks on door.
Just my opinion

Here's an idea next time someone starts a post that has any grumbling in it, the moderator deletes it and no one gets the opportunity to express there immature, itiotic feelings because that is what it is like reading all of this garbage. The NR's whine about something they have no control over and the residents stand up, bash them down and tell them to leave THERE state and go somewhere else.

Rediculious!

180bc - very well put! Nice to see a reply without name calling and trying to make someone feel stupid. We need more people like you who get their point across without making themselves sound foolish - whether it be resident or nonresident.

I'll take a tag when I can draw one. I wish all states had a cap on NRs. In Soth Carolina the # of NRs grow every season and # of resident decline. This is due to leasing, we sell over 18,000 NR licenses a season and we have less land Iowa.

You guys are leaps and bounds ahead of many states in protecting state owned natural resources.

I wouldn't change a thing....
