The Future of Iowa Deer Hunting and a One Buck Limit

Not a fan of a special depredation season in January at all but does anybody think maybe an expanded depredation program and less county wide antlerless tags could be the answer? Would it limit the over harvest in some areas and reserve the antlerless tags for the areas that really need it?

I believe loss of habitat has to be part of the problem as well. Areas where deer have been living the last 50 years is now a development to homes and the farmers as well have removed trees, CRP and other areas that gave them a chance to spread out and survive.
Pushing the herd into more concentrated areas also gives us better opportunities to use all our new technology that didn't exist years ago.
It's almost getting to the point they have nowhere to hide anymore.

A couple of my neighbors are currently having trees cleared out of waterways. Less cover over there might mean deer relocate closer to me.
