Hey Guys, this is my first post. I joined a couple weeks ago and have just really enjoyed listening in on fellow whitetail nuts. Great site!
Warning: Long post ahead. Run if you're bored easily!
Long winter here in MN so the fishing stories--thoughts of open water!-- brought me in. One of my favorites is before my wife and I had our kids. I do a lot of river-fishing for muskies/bass and I wanted her to experience a float trip with me.
Had Shari throwing a buzz-bait (topwater) while I steered the jon boat down river. Knew we were reachin a good stretch, but I wasn't concentrating (mainly because she was wearing her bikini top and I was loving summer)as she cast and retrieved. Anyway, I heard her make this funny little "eek" sound and looked up and coming off the bank--right behind her bait--was the V-wake of a mega muskie! I said "get ready!"
Well I didn't know it but she had cast her line right over a tree leaning off the river bank and over the water. Well she kept right on reeling and just as that muskie swatted at her bait, the lure caught up to branch and it just came right off the water and hung there! Of course the muskie missed...
She was yelling "what do I do? what do I do?" and I stuttered like Gomer Pyle for a second and then said, "Well he is probably done, so give your line some slack and then when it hits the water again, reel up to the branch and give it a jerk and it will come free."
So she did that. But the muskie must have gone into the current and then turned to go back to his hole because as soon as she started reeling again, here comes the V-wake and this time he is hauling the mail! Well Shari panicked and screamed and just ripped that line and the bait flew into the tree and just hung there, right over the water. So Mr. Muskie missed again and I tell you he was a toad!
Well she turned back to me, thinking I'd be mad because she didn't catch it, but I was laughing so hard I couldn't stop. Then she laughed for a second...then got MAD because of course she thought I was laughing at HER! That's that woman thing I guess. Can't float that river without thinking of that fish and that day!
Good memories on a cold winter night!!!
