I observed several running others thru the woods in a mad frenzy chasing till there was no end.Making what looked to be ground scrapes and even a little sparring of sorts....

Oh I forgot to mention these were brown squirrels.They must be in rut !
Just poking some humor at some a couple of slow days in the deer woods.Should of had my 22 with me.I could be sitting backing eating a nice bowl of squirrel stew with some hot bisquits and gravy.
 
I had to read this post.....I was thinking to myself "Who the heck is this guy"!

Squirrels seem to be getting pretty thick where I bowhunt. It seems like I see atleast one everytime I head for the woods. Those suckers eat shed antlers too!
 
Maybe a bit of pre-rut activity. Tree rats are running rampent in NE IOWA.
I did watch 6 differint bucks squaring off over an hour and a half time frame last night. Probably one of the most memorable hunts for me. All on 4 acres of Quaker Boy Northen Forage and Buck Oats planted Labor day Weekend. At one time I had 10 deer (6 bucks) within 20 yards. Total inches of antler wasn't over 400", but they sure acted tough tinkeling heads.

Won't be long now, maybe a big boy or two will decide to grace my presence.

I think I lost count at 649 tree rats saturday morning! No really though, they sounded like a herd of elk crashing through the timber. I heard some antlers clacking before dawn but they didn't sound too serious yet, just building up their neck muscles!

i know here in kansas it has not started
but some small bucks have. should be around the 12th

Owning your own company, A PAINTING COMPANY has limited my hunting time and I have many years of old used up buck tags that makes my wife and the WORLD come to stop, and I hit the Woods NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

The other day it was dead silent and all i heard was THUMP. I was like WTH. Then he started to walk like a deer. Hopin around like he owned the place. I was about ready to shoot him but a doe saved his poor little life. Someday im gonna get him. If i get pissed off enough he will be on my wall.
