Thermal Bow Site

Welp...two things...

1. I guess we won't need the cell cams to tell us when Mr. Big is "daylighting" 24/7 anymore. Kidding, not kidding.

2. I can hear the arguments in favor of this now..."It's legal..."., "I work first shift and can only hunt at night...", etc.

This is madness IMO, but here we are. SMH.

Ever since thermals came out I personally know alot of guys that are big into it....a few dont bowhunt anymore cause theres hardly any deer but there tons of coyotes out there which is good...so with the popularity of thermal hunting...makes you wonder how many big bucks are getting shot w thermals

Exactly. There's blatant poachers, then there are the guys out coyote hunting, abiding by the letter of the law, until a booner shows up in the thermal...

The same hunters that will pull the trigger in that scenario are the same ones that would shoot the booner during doe season or while day hunting for coyotes. COULD you tell in a thermal what type of buck is in the field, maybe but the majority of the bucks I’ve saw you can tell it has horns or nice frame and that is about it. Someone has a $7k to $10k 1024 thermal scope maybe a little clearer but there aren’t many thermal hunters with that level of scope. On other threads we all talking bout how there aren’t any (many) booners out there but now the thermal coyote hunters are popping them. Come on. I know I have a different mindset but I would get 0 satisfaction out of shooting a world record with a gun let alone a thermal at night. I’m not naive to say it NEVER happens. But a lot less than people believe. Again, getting rid of more coyotes is likely more of a win than the few bucks getting popped by poachers. I DO see a benefit to the COs if thermals were not legal during deer season tho.

I think thermals are the new spotlight and the wardens I've talked with in multiple states agree. It's a problem in that one scumbag can be very efficient. You are a good person, you don't get the satisfaction from poaching, but losers in the local bars sure do. I've heard many wardens say 1% of poachers do 90% of the damage.

I shouldn't assume otherwise law abiding hunters do damage, you're right. I'm sure most aren't But thermals sure make it easy and big racks make good guys do questionable things.

I'm not against thermals but I think they need a hard look via regulations. Stiffer penalties and such. I'm also hearing that coyotes are getting wise to night hunting. What used to be super easy is quickly getting harder. I've had three different groups out to one of our farms this year. So far they've killed one. Most of the time the coyotes just howl at them from the timber.

Yeah all good. Those type of poachers probably have a pickup bed full of 120 inch deer and they can accomplish that with a thermal AND wreck an area.

100% big racks make people do STUPID stuff.

With the thermal bowsite legislation would almost have to be passed to not allow the thermals while deer seasons going because how many guys would be “coyote hunting” all night with their bow in a tree stand!! Doh!!!

This will be so handy for the ONLY use I can think of I’ll use it for!!! I can shoot em on my corn pile in the middle of the night or… 2nd use if I want to only violate 1 law vs 2…. I could just use on hunting scrape lines or fields at dark
Just like NV - NO THERMALS DURING DEER SEASON!!!!

I'm not for it, but it isn't that big of a stretch from lighted pins already out there. If your going to let it eat after hours, you already were. I bet that thing is super sensitive and will get messed up easily walking through the woods getting banged around.

Seems WAY different to me. Light on pins just helps you see the pin in lower light (just before shooting light is over or when shooting from inside a dark blind), but you still need to see the animal. Thermal shows you the animal that you could not see at all or at least well enough to shoot when it is past hooting hours.

Why would anyone even develop this in the first place ? Hogs in southern states maybe??
$$$$$

What will be sold to poachers alone will turn a profit. And not to mention those that will impulse buy to shoot a coyote after dark with a bow. Spend XXXX dollars to shoot one coyote in five years. Everything that is new and techy is brought to the market for $$$.

Good point, but a poacher will be a poacher—that's what I was getting at. Example, right now with the snow you could hunt all night with lighted pins—probably not in October.
