They're moving

They haven't even touched the alfalfa I put down. Waiting for the biggest bucks I've ever seen to come to the alfalfa.

May I say one thing? I was out there ALL day with my friend and we made tons of noise and put tons of scent in this area and we had deer come under the stand while we were putting it up for next year. People say once your scent is in the area deer won't come. We also drove right into this area and the deer weren't even startled.

See my stand in the background? No bait near it for 300 yards.

Right under my stand the day after I put it up!

I'm going to post a few pictures of how I set the stand up. I ended up spraining my neck while cutting some trees so my Dad will have to do most of the heavy lifting :) Haha

Nice deer but don't confuse luck with logic when it comes to mature deer and scent.

Really, that is normal for the deer around here. They watch from a safe distance, then have to come in to check it out, when alls clear.

We just have not had enough snow and cold weather for them to want the alfalfa yet, Josh. Way too much food in the fields still and browse in the timber.

Them apples on the ground? We have some old couple who put out 200 lbs of apples and other garden veggies next to there house now the hunting is junk in that area.

The stand is 200 yards from there house and the deer are on a night time feeding schedule and nothing comes out during the day.

Yep sir, no snow over here...Feed everywhere!

Hey Joe, friend of mine sent me a pic, his dad arrowed a pretty good buck Saturday night, found him today. Good hard hunter, got him up by Dunlap I think...here is the buck.

Nice buck Tony! Looks like he lost a heck of a long g-3 in the woods somewhere. Some good deer taken around the area, but nothing compared to the last couple of years.

Hedge apples are poisonous though?

Those things give me a hell of a rash if I touch them when they're open!

We should have a lot more dead deer if they are poisonous to deer. Just sayin. They actually dig them out of the snow too. Cattle will eat them too, but aren't so lucky sometimes as they don't get them chewed up enough or at all and choke on them.

You sure acorns are poisonous? I've eaten a couple before.

yes I have ate some too. But if you read about it they have a toxicity to humans, in certain parts of the nut. However if you cook them you are fine. I was just as surprised as you when one of my professors this year said they were poisonous.

Better stick to the acorn scented mouth spray instead.
