Things I've learned this year

Just how much raising a family can can cut into a guys time in the field. With the little guy running all over the place and #2 on the way in May, my time in the field is a third of what it use to be, at best. With that I've have learned to appreciate and take advantage of what little time I have. The first buck I harvested on November 19th during shotgun season. I have to say the highlight of that hunt was the look of excitement Ashton had as he was pointing and saying "ddddeeeer!" as I drove up to the house. I cannot wait until he is big enough to go along.

The second buck I havested just a couple days ago on December 21st with my bow.The last four days have been nothing but rain and wind but that afternoon it had slowed to a mist as you can see in the picture. He is a big nine and had become very predictable over the last week. Him and another wider eight were traveling with a group of does to the same field to feed for nearly a week. As a side note, the Saturday before I made a big mistake on the wide eight that I wasn't going to make on this buck, but i am not going to go into details as I will only get sick to my stomach all over again. Anyways, I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas!

P.s. To make up for some of that lost time in the woods, I just treated myself to an early x-mas present with my PMA Membership!

Congrats!

If I have learned one thing over the years, its not the amount of time you put in, its the amount of "quality" time you put in. Sometimes less is more. Nice photos by the way

Great Bucks .... Good looking hunting partner as well. Dor hit the nail on the head .... Quality time is better in many cases than qaunity time. Here's to you and the little man and your hunting future.

Yes, the bucks are a lot alike and were both taken within 200 yds of each. A lot of the deer from this immediate area have very similar antler characteristics, i.e. long beam length, lots of 8 pointers of all sizes that have the beam length that could fit some more tines on them but they just don't. Another character trait I see is a lot of the bucks have G3's that are longer than the G2's, something i think is kind of cool.

Muzzy - Congrats on two great bucks! I have two children (5 an just 15 months). Between work and family, time in the outdoors is scarce, but when I get a chance, I try to make the most of it.

looks like a fantastic season, having a family that supports you makes all the time worth it.
once you stop learning, stop hunting
Congrats!!
