I just got that pic in my email. I don't know if it can happen to deer but unchecked hooves can grow to enormous proportions. Some horses (usually very old and not moving much) get that way if they aren't taken to the farrier. I wouldn't think a deer with as much moving around as they do would have much chance of it.
Maybe he was from the Ammunition Plant and drank some funky water or something...

I thought that was just on here. I belive it is called "foundered" too much protine in the diet or something like that.

It's real, I can happen to any kind of hoof aminal. You see it in cattle once in a while and in cattle that are kept on concrete more often. I never seen a deer in the wild with it, but have seen other pictures of them. And Yes this was posted on this site a couple of weeks ago.
