These guys are known poachers in the area. There was just never enough evidence to search the property. They finally slipped up and it's hopefully going to cost them. I'm not saying that some of these deer weren't taken legally but if the landowners and the hunters who actually have permission to hunt in the area could see some of these racks...lets just say they'd look quite familiar

If this is the case, damn glad they caught them. I just hate reading news stories that are so misleading.

From what I hear they deserve far more than what they'll probably end up getting. They are not liked around here by the landowners who they have trespassed on.

Grew up in Atlantic and the names sound familiar, but just can't place them. The elder is only a few years younger then me. Doing some checking with relatives and farmers in the area. Be interested to see how this turns out.

Just like iowavf said, according to the locals it was a matter of time. Not well respected in that area. Sansgard still on the job up there? He is a good man and was a good one to have around. Actually went by his house while I was back over Christmas. Still be interested to see how it turns out.

Biebs, sounds like you changed your tune on them a bit?? I have drove past that place countless times since its just up the road from one of my farms... now it really makes me wonder why I was finding dead deer and no horns  Glad they were caught, and really glad that video came out to show the reason behind the "sheds"

My taxidermist always says to keep your tag with your mount. If you are ever investigated for anything the DNR can seize anything on your property that doesn't have a tag with it. That doesn't mean it has to be on the antler but it does have to be with the mount. At least this is my understanding. So I duct tape them to the back side.

These guys are pukes. There are a few in my area also and I would love to see them go down. I can hear rifle shots at sunset almost every evening during November.

Everybody that believes they ate all those deer please raise their hand.

Even if the 111 known cases occurred over let's say the last 10 years and the poachers killed equally between them that's 5 each per year. Granted I don't know the whole story or the family situation, but that's a lot of meat. Perhaps they were charitable fellas and were killing for the meat to distribute to the hungry.

I don't like to judge anybody on a 10 second sound bite but when the Sherriff said he believes they were eating the venison I had a huge eye roll.

I agree with you Bonker, however that being said, we have 5 deer in the freezer from this year, and it will all get ate... but its jerky, sticks, etc etc...

Maybe I can help shed some light on this matter. Unfortunately this was a long time coming. This family is well known for blatantly
poaching deer. Trespassing, stealing treestands, shooting out of vehicles, spotlighting deer at night, as well as other non game related offenses. Many local property owners have been extremely frustrated for a few years now that they hadn't been busted. As I understand it, all of the 111 antlers mentioned were full racks, not sheds or deadheads, and all poached. Hopefully they will get what they deserve.

If they really poached 111 deer they should get lifetime bans. The restitution is going to be astronomical.

I agree, lifetime ban would be justified, and retribution fees should be extremely high as well as fines etc. I'm not sure if either of them has a steady job, or even work at all, so getting that money may be tough. The sheriff commented that he thought they were eating at least some of the meat, however there have been many local complaints of dead bucks with just the heads cut off or maybe just the loins removed. If they were after meat, why some many racks, why weren't they shooting does. its very sad and infuriating, especially with the already declining deer numbers.

I went hunting with a few friends today down in Ringold co. We noticed truck tire prints around all the areas with trees. We sat for a few hours...no deer.....did a few pushes...no deer... It wasn't until the end of a drive we saw blood and drag marks.... We are the only ones with permission....Sadly, I think the poaching problem is wide spread. It becomes difficult to monitor those areas in the state with low human populations. Sadly, without more conservation officers the problem will continue.
