Throw the cold into the MIx:

Along with everything affecting the deer herd, this cold, if continues, will have some negative results also. Deer are burning fat reserves now! Used to read up in N-MI, it was said, if deer made it thru DEC in good shape ,they could make it until Spring. Snow is not deep at least.

I agree- I will NOT be partaking in the antlerless season this year- or many ever again for that matter. A guy who hunts the property shot a pretty big shed buck that I think was one of my main hit list bucks. take away the low deer numbers- if they insist on having this antlerless season- couldn't they have it earlier in the year so none of the bucks have shed yet?

typical iowa winter, I dont think that will hurt them any, I do agree with the antlerless season should be over with, I seen some guys that shot 14 deer a couple years ago and 11 of them were shed bucks some of them had huge bases, it about makes me sick

If they can survive in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, etc etc they'll be fine here. Not worried about the cold as much as if we have another dry year. The ehd will stick around...
