Timber Harvest

Is there a set standard to know when a tree can be harvested? I know the bigger the better, but I am referring to what is the minimum size a tree can be in order for it to be ready to harvest. I have heard that some people say that if you can't touch your fingers when you reach around a tree it can be harvested. Any thoughts, ideas, etc would be greatly appreciated.

Ha. That article is awesome!!!!! Walnut economics are so interesting & rarely done right.
The similarities in to managing ages of bucks & good genetic bucks is staggering!!!

Do you think what the article covers on walnut trees would hold the same as with oaks as well?
