Growing up, my dad never hunted or fished. Instead my parent's neighbour Bob got my brother and I hooked on fishing. Weekly he'd take us down to the river and we'd fish, use his stuff, he did everything for us. Looking back it was likely a real pain in the a$$ taking a couple kids fishing a couple times a week. Since we were kids my brother and I were hooked. Bob is now in his 70's and doesn't get out as much as he used to as putting the boat in is not an easy chore for himself these days. My brother and I decided it would be nice for us to take him fishing like he used to for us. He agreed to make the 2 1/2 hr drive to my brothers and then another 2 1/2 hrs with Kris to my cabin. In Bob's words "I've never had such good fishing in my whole life". We fished friday afternoon and caught about 60 walleye, we then went out again Sat. and caught another 80 and about 30 pike. We didn't get any monsters with a 27" eye being the biggest but many double and triple headers. We had a blast. I almost was teery eyed saying goodbye to Bob today when they dropped me off at home today. I know he won't be around forever and as the years pass he'll get to do what he loves less and less. He needs a knee replacement in the fall but I sure hope he's good to go again next spring b/c I'd like nothing more than to spend another couple days with him just like I did this weekend. He lives 5 hrs away from me and I don't see him much anymore. He was every bit as much like a grandpa to me as my other grandpas who have since passed away were. It sure was nice to go fishing with an old friend.
