Tough Pill

There may be a few of you that have followed along with my posts over the last few years about a buck I call Curly. I learned last night that the neighbor got him. I knew it would hurt, but man that one hurt. I've been following this deer since 2011 when he showed up as a 2.5 year old. 2012 I put a terrible shot on him and buried an arrow in his shoulder. I never saw him in 2013, but the neighbor (same one that got him) hit him in the leg. 2014 I saw him 3 times, I had him at 60 yards twice. I have his left sides from the last three years, the neighbor has his right side from 2012. So we were definitely both invested in this deer. Unfortunately for me, the cards went his way. Just like that, the story of Curly ends. It's tough realizing I'll never be able to anticipate seeing him on camera again. And I'll never again be able to stress out over finding his sheds. But on the bright side, it will be nice to actually hunt some of my other spots without thinking I should be in Curly's area. This deer has really taken over my deer hunting life. Not looking for sympathy, just closing the book on a deer that I have posted about many different times.

And I have two days off next week to specifically hunt this deer  I guess I'll plant my butt somewhere else.

Been there!!

I've watched a couple of bucks for several years to hear someone else tagged it, part of the game I guess. Doesn't make it smart less.

Sucks when it happens that way!

Got any more pictures of him?

2015 is the picture I posted above.

Sheds from 12, 13 and 14.

The toughest part of the neighbor getting him is this is the picture I get. I'll see if I can get him to send me some more, but based on previous harvest photos I've seen from him, he isn't one for taking pictures.

Agreed, that is one down side of becoming familiar with specific bucks over a period of time. But, I would rather know what happened to a given buck than to just have them disappear. Those actually bug me more for some reason...and probably happen more often in my experience.

Your right, it is tough. Been there myself a few times. IMO, it is better to know the outcome, regardless. Still plenty of time to turn your season around. Best of luck.
