Tracking Dogs on TV

A while back there was a thread concerning legalizing tracking dog use in Iowa for recovering deer.

At lunch I watched an episode of Tecomate Whitetail Nation that featured hunts in Iowa. These hunts were in southern Iowa with the Hellickson family. One of the family members shot a buck too far back with a shotgun and they decided to wait and trail it the next day.

When the show resumed they took to the field with shotguns in hand and two Labrador retrievers to track the deer. The followed the dogs and found the deer.

My question is how is this not illegal under current law and if it is why has there not been any action by the DNR?

I personally support the use of dogs to help track wounded deer but does this set precedent that the DNR isn't considering it against current regulations or in the least has chosen not to enforce it?

As far as I could tell it was private property and not high fence but would that really matter.

Shouldn't be hard to prove since they essentially filmed themselves in the act.

True and I think it matters if they referenced using the dogs specifically for finding that deer.

If it was high fence/hunting preserve state rules and regulations need not apply in certain situations. Much similar to how an upland preserve allows the harvesting of all birds-hens and roosters year round. Id bet the hunt took place on a high fence and for tv purposes the dogs were brought in for "pimping" of that guys dogs.

Hellickson's own a lot of ground in Union county Iowa, where there is no high fence. Not sure if they were hunting their ground or not, I've never watched the episode.
