A while back there was a thread concerning legalizing tracking dog use in Iowa for recovering deer.
At lunch I watched an episode of Tecomate Whitetail Nation that featured hunts in Iowa. These hunts were in southern Iowa with the Hellickson family. One of the family members shot a buck too far back with a shotgun and they decided to wait and trail it the next day.
When the show resumed they took to the field with shotguns in hand and two Labrador retrievers to track the deer. The followed the dogs and found the deer.
My question is how is this not illegal under current law and if it is why has there not been any action by the DNR?
I personally support the use of dogs to help track wounded deer but does this set precedent that the DNR isn't considering it against current regulations or in the least has chosen not to enforce it?
