Traveling to hunt

I have been looking at the possibility of going on a caribou hunt in Quebec and was wondering if anybody on the site has gone on a hunting trip where they had antlers as well as meat, gear firearms, bows, etc. to transport and how they got it all home. It's quite a long way to drive alone so I'd prefer to fly up but I just don't know about getting it all back home.

Get out your wallet. I think all the airlines charge $100 to $200 for large antlers anymore. Used to be able to just pay the standard extra luggage charge but I think that's changed. When we shipped meat back home from AK 5 years ago on a plane as frieght it was .92 a lb. I'm sure it not any cheaper today. It was all froze in boxes and on a pallet and it made it back OK. I would think if yours was froze and maybe wrapped with some dry ice it would survive the trip too.

Guns arn't usually a big hassel. They have to be in a locking hard case with ammo kept seperate. They will check the gun so make sure it's safe, so you need to unlock it to show security then they will tag it. There might be more to it going into and out of Canada though since 9-11.
