Tree puller vs. shears

We have a 70hp ASV skid loader. Our farm has a bunch of ERC, honey locust and hedge/osage orange that need thinning. Some small diameter up to 24”+.

I’ve seen a few vids on here of guys using tree pullers. We are also considering a tree shear. A bit more expensive, but seems to be more versatile and able to use on bigger trees.

Anyone have experience/advice to share?
 
We have a Notch brand tree puller. Absolutely love it. Mostly pull mulberry trees with it. Our skidloader isn't as big as yours and I think you would be amazed how big of a tree you can take down with it. It has a point where you can dig at the brace roots indidually to take down bigger trees. Main benefit is not having to treat stumps to keep them from growing back. Also no stump to hit with a different price of equipment later on.

I’m a fan of tree puller as well! I guess I haven’t seen shears used much to be fair though. But like the idea of no stumps.
 
Shears have their place... example remnant prairie that has cedars. Shearing... Zero soil disturbance.... no concern of a stump causing issues later.

Most applications.... puller better.
