Two Buck Limit

Th idea for this poll was submitted by one of the other moderators. It is an interesting concept, what do you think?

Think this would be great but be real hard to control during shotgun hunting when you have 30-40 guys in a group.

I'm not sure of what specific issue you would be trying to resolve with a 2 buck limit? Also, how could we inforce such a law?

I dont think you would during shotgun season, but limit people who buy landowners the option, use that as 1 of their buck tags and then have only 1 buck tag valid for season they choose.

What are my tag purchase options? Can I buy two either sex bow tags? Can I buy a shotgun AND muzzleloader either sex?

In my understanding of the laws here in Iowa.... there already is a 2 buck limit. Only one can be a firearm season and then the other would be Bow. To me this poll seems directed mainly at land owners?? My understanding is they're the only people that can get another "any/buck" tag other then what the state allows each and every other hunter. IMO most land owners should be allowed this "extra" any/buck tag. The tags are only valid for "their" property. They are the stewards of their own land.... many of wich are practicing QDM. How would eliminating their tags benifit the rest of the hunters or the deer herd in this state?

Kind of my read on it too, Woody.

What valid role would this limit play in the DNR game management plan?

People might want to be careful to not bite the hand that feeds, you never know the next time you go knocking on doors seeking permission.....

Stupid idea! Why would anyone want to take away something we already have? Shouldn't we be focused on trying to obtain fewer restrictions on hunters instead of more?

The more valid question is when will we start the earn a buck rule. requiring you to harvest a doe and then get your buck tag. This would be valid for that whole year. I feel this would increase the doe harvest, allow for bucks to grow, decrease out of state hunters and incourage more bowhunters to pick up the sport. I do think that the number of people who tried to use the early muzzleloader season would also increase. I think for that reason early muzzle season should be the first week of october and not prevent bowhunters from hunting this season.

As for restrictions, I feel that few people respect the fact that the deer herd is distroying the understory in our wood lots and timbers and preventing their regeneration by killing saplings. At no time in history has the herd been so large and the forests so small to allow this. The concentration of the herd is un-natural. The only way to allow for a healthy forest is to save the deer from themselves. There will be a day when we, or our childeren will look back and wonder why we were so vain, to think that big antlers were more important than healthy woods.

Why would we try add restrictions on the number of buck tags. My vote is no you shoud have some benifits from being a land owner and paying taxes. I love bow hunting but it's not all about them. Gun hunters have equal say..
