Well I finally got my shot at the guy. He was quartering away and when I shot he dropped in this tracks. So I knew I hit high, but I thought I was going to be ok, then he drug himself a little bit then got up and ran................

So I got down and looked and there was blood everywhere and I found the arrow minus the broadhead (it pulled out of the shaft) the shaft had blood 7"up.

I waited about an hour and then took up the trail and finally lost blood after a few hundred yards.

Anybody have ideas?

I am going out tomorrow morning to look, hopefully he bedded down and got to stiff that he will not be able to get up.

Re: Hit ???????

I would say the shot shocked his spine initially and that's why he went down so fast. Sounds to me that you're above the backbone, especially if the blood trail peetered out. I'd bet that with the high shot he'll clot up and that'll be that. Too bad you didn't have time to get another arrow into him while he lay there.

Re: Hit ???????

I would say Muddy is right and the only chance to get your broadhead back is another shot at him. But you never know, good luck on your search!

Re: Hit ???????

I don't really have enough info here. Sping area is the most likely. Maybe front sholder that deflected up? Maybe caught one lung? Where you on the ground or in a stand? How high up and how far was the deer? Good luck but without more info it doesn't sounds real promising.

Re: Hit ???????

Did you see the hit?

How long was the buck on the ground?

What type of blood was on the arrow?

Re: Hit ???????

Sounds similiar to a doe I hit earlier this year. She dropped like a rock, flopped around, ran 10 feet fell down, got back up and that was the last I seen of her. Sounds like you caught the top of the spin which shocked em. Should recover from the hit though??

Re: Hit ???????

Update - I found more blood and have trailed him probably 1 mile now. There are blood spots where he stops about the size of a basketball.
I am going to just keep trailing until I run out of blood or recover him.
I did see the shot he was about 38yrds and I am 30ft up.
The arrow I did recover but the broadhead is still in him. The blood was pretty red.
He was on the ground about 30sec....not long enough for me to get down the tree and stick him again.

Well I gave up at 4:30 tonight I lost blood and think he probably will make it if I didnt find him or anymore blood....I hope I get another picture of him this year with his new tatoo.......

I got a new trail cam photo of this guy, not from the side I hit him on though.

I am glad to see he is up moving around!!
