Iowa Boy At Heart
I just got off the phone with Wayne and he sounded great. He's in pain, but full of hope and optimism as always. His surgery went well yesterday and his surgeon was able to fix the tear completely and they were able to do it arthroscopically, instead of having to open him up. The long-term prognosis is fantastic! :way: The downside is that the tear was more extensive than originally thought, so it will take some time to recover. He will be in an immobilizer sling for 4 weeks and he's looking at the 12-week recovery scenario. He's all ready talking about taking his bow down to his bow shop and having the poundage lowered to the minimum, tuned accordingly, and learning to draw with his mouth if it comes to that. All I could do was smile and think "why am I not surprised?"! I love that determination!!
He was in too much pain to do much of anything else, so I told him I would let you all know what is going on. On a personal note, I was out in the back yard yesterday evening shooting my bow and hanging out with my kids when I looked up to the east and saw a HUGE bright post-monsoon storm rainbow that covered the entire eastern sky. All I could do was smile and say "Wayne's just fine.". One of the best things that has happened to me recently was getting back in touch with Wayne a few years ago after going our separate ways after high school. He's an inspiration to us all and my wife always notices a big difference in my demeanor and relaxation levels when I talk to him and other old friends. So with that, keep getting better, Wayne! :way:
