W t H???

It would be awesome if all the groups that aren't going could have one right next door during the same dates.

It could be sponsored by Rock River Arms and DPMS. Now that would be cool.

That would be awesome but, I wonder which event the NRA would attend? I know some of you guys support their decision to still go to that show. I simply can't. If I tell you for years I'm your buddy and then find out you got told your not welcome at the big party we were all going to and I still go, what kind of friend am I? Would you except the explanation that I'm only going to tell every body what good guy you are?

I guess the way I am looking at it, is what better group to have there? They are going to push and promote firearms of every kind. The show said no AR style weapons or magazines, didn't say anything about educating people on them and hopefully changing peoples mind on them that are sitting on the fence or uneducated about them.

I will continue to support the NRA. There is no other group out there that looks out for the right to bear arms for the citizens of the USA. They have definitely gone to battle hard in the last month for us, and will continue to do so.

I'm not abandoning the NRA. I'm pissed at them because I feel like they're not supporting the AR group at the ESOS. Well, to each their own I guess. I did try to call them today but never got through which is not surprising given the current state of affairs.
Look, we could go 'round and 'round about this but I think most people have made up their minds as to whether or not they support the NRAs decision to attend. If, like me, you feel they have lost their damn minds, I urge you to call them and tell so. On the other hand, if you support them in this matter, I would suggest that you too call and let them know that as well.
Their number is (800)-392-8683

Easy now, just debating.

I guess I have not personally made up my mind yet on rather I think it is right or wrong on what they are doing. It is all going to depend on what the NRA does there. If all they do is try and recruit more members, then I probably won't like their decision to stay there. If they go in there with ready to educate the people on AR style weapons, how the term "assault weapon" is nothing more than a media ploy, preach on how the Reed group did not support the 2nd amendment rights and that is why there is not any hunting groups there, ect... then I will be more inclined to support their decision.

But as of now, I am pretty neutral.

I know we're just debating Nanny and I certainly don't want to sway your opinion to the opposite of mine by being insulting. :)
Now, maybe I've spent to much time thinking about this but...consider who goes to the ESOS. Who is the NRA going to educate? Those people are already sportsminded. That's why they go to those shows.
I suppose the possibility exists that the NRA will go there and completely shred Reeds for doing this. In the event that happens I'll call 'em and apologize. But, that depends entirely on how they conduct themselves in PA.

Looks like the argument is over. Just saw this on the NRA-ILA site.

"Due to Reed Exhibitions' refusal to reconsider their decision to ban Modern Sporting Rifles from the February 2-10 Eastern Sports Show in Harrisburg, PA, the National Rifle Association has decided to withdraw from the show. We had called on Reed Exhibitions to reconsider their decision; unfortunately they have steadfastly refused to do so. As a result, the NRA will not be participating in the upcoming show in Harrisburg or in any other shows hosted by Reed Exhibitions that maintain this policy. We are disappointed that Reed Exhibitions has ignored the concerns expressed by attendees, the outdoor industry and the NRA in not reconsidering their position to ban the display of Modern Sporting Rifles."

Hurray!! We're all friends again!

this whole thing is sad really. these shows are one of the best opportunities we sportsmen and women have to all come together and great way to introduce new people to the sport we love. not to mention a great place for organizations like the NRA to sign up new members. Also one of the few times fans have to meet their favorite hunting celebrities.
kudos to all the companies, organizations, celebrities, and sportsmen and women who are boycotting this clear lack of support for our 2nd Amendment right by Reed Exhibitions. shame on Reed for ruining those opportunities.

Show has been cancelled. Press Release.

Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event. The show was scheduled to take place February 2-10 in Harrisburg, PA.

“Our original decision not to include certain products in the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show this year was made in order to preserve the event’s historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families,” said Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions President for the Americas. “In the current climate, we felt that the presence of MSRs would distract from the theme of hunting and fishing, disrupting the broader experience of our guests. This was intended simply as a product decision, of the type event organizers need to make every day.

“It has become very clear to us after speaking with our customers that the event could not be held because the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing.

“ESS has long been proud to participate in the preservation and promotion of hunting and fishing traditions, and we hope that as the national debate clarifies, we will have an opportunity to consider rescheduling the event when the time is right to focus on the themes it celebrates.”

I am sorry for the loss of revenue these people will experience though. Not to mention just missing out on an event like this, with the comradery and chances to make new friends.
On the up side though, certain groups who thought they could dictate the sport of hunting/shooting found they could not.
I really think we should be proud of ourselves on this one!

So why limit what American sportsmen, American families, and American Shooters use in the field everyday while hunting and shooting? It's people like him that don't have a clue.

Trying to be PC AND cover their backside. Can't have it both ways. Looks like they learned the hard way just like Jim Zumbo.

I hope that Shot show is pulled from Reeds as well. I would love to see Bass Pro and Cabela's step up to the plate and get this show back on track. I think both companies would gain brownie points from a lot of people it they did that.

It sucks that so many people depend on the show for a good portion of their business. But in the same sense, I am glad to see that there are still plenty of American's that will stand up to a company such as Reeds.

I'll bet the show will continue, and it will be with a different organization.

And one last thing, it really bugs the CRAP out of me to see how arrogant that response is. Trying to spin it to make the sportsmen and vendors look bad.
