waiting for the front

Really getting sick of the 80+ degree south winds. A few days ago the weatherman promised rain, cooler weather and a north wind by sunday, but this front just sits in nebraska. Like alot of you guys probably I dont have a bunch of south wind spots and especially to get my son Colton a shot at the "Hook" buck he is hunting, in his area that must have a northerly wind. With football and a girlfriend, I was lucky and got him sat. and sun. this week, so we put up a portable blind and tried to cheat the wind. That did'nt work ,so we tried another even worse plan tonight . Did not see any deer untill almost 7:00 ,but when we did ,we packed up and got out quick before we got pinned down, or a shot ,and had to track, cape and butcher a deer before bedtime with this heat. Between school tomorrow, Boardwalk, Hung and Dexter on hbo and showtime and it should be cool enough next weekend to hang overnight, it was real easy to say scew it untill next weekend. I just hope the wind shifts.

It was a great weekend to visit our daughter and tailgate at UNI. But for bowhunting...it sucks. It'll cool off eventually I suppose, but we're wasting valuable bow season days with this 80+ crap :thrwrck:

I hope the forecast is right. Calling for the wind to switch to West/Northwest Thursday or Friday and start cooling down a bit.

NWBuck, I was tailgating at the UNI game also. We also enjoyed the game itself.

I did shoot a nice doe back on my in-laws farm in Bremer county on Saturday morning.

Go figure, despite the marginal at best wind, eight minutes after we snuck out of the blind last night, the buck Colton was after walked 15-20 yards from the blind and hammered my camera that was on a willow post. When I went up to pull the card this morning the camera was hanging sideways on the tree, but no damage.Oh well, at least we were not up past midnight trying to get him caped, cut up and in the freezer. We just saw some does coming so we got out of there before they got us pinned down, should of waited to see what was behind them.

dang that sucks.. but you never know does could have busted then you woulda messed it up.. least he still came in not spooked plus were finally going to get some different winds this week

Dang, looks like a nice one. You'll probably get another poke at him.

Hunted geese all weekend. Hammered 'em both days so that's a plus, but the bowhunting/deer movement is SLOW.....at least where I'm hunting. I've only been out once and that was Thursday evening. Didn't see any deer. The camera that I have in the area is getting pics super early in the morning and very late in the evening and throughout the night. I'm hunting around white oaks and there are acorns EVERYWHERE. IMO, it's just been so warm they're primarily feeding in the early morning and throughout the night judging by the times of my pictures. Hopefully the end of this week it will get a little better.
